Gustine Baptist Pastor Resigns After Seven Years
Rev. R. M. McGinnis resigns after more than seven years as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Gustine. He will preach farewell Sunday night as the church prepares a final service and lunch. He has accepted a new call to the First Baptist Church at Big Lake. The Gustine church building, destroyed by fire in January 1950, has since been replaced by a tile and stucco structure with auditorium, basement, Sunday School rooms, and a kitchen. A baptistry given in memory of Rev. G. W. Toby adorns the church interior. Several ministers are expected to attend the farewell service.

Mrs. B. 8. Holmsley, 94, pioneer citizen of Comanche, broke a leg in a fall at home last week and was hospitalized in Brownwood for treatment. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lacy received their first letter from their son Sgt. Set. H. R. Lacy, who left New York Nov. 20. The soldier reported no danger and good health after his voyage. Sgt. Lacy earlier worked with Higginbotham Bros. & Co. at Cross Plains before joining the Army.

Texas farmers to gain from wartime crop incentive plan
Maximum production of food and feed crops will bring thousands of dollars to Texas farmers under the incentive payments program. The State USDA War Board said gains come from reduced production costs and higher yields in peanuts, grain sorghum, and soybeans. Payments range from 30 per acre for peanuts, 15 for soybeans, to 8 for grain sorghums, applying only to acreage over 90 percent and up to 110 percent of farm goals set under the war production plan.
