Ira Martin Palmer formerly of Comanche and brother of Mrs Ruth Laughlin Palmer was killed in action January 22 in the Southwest Pacific. He served in the Army since February 1941 and had been overseas in the Pacific Area for months. Palmer lived in Comanche County 1936 to 1940 and worked on farms and ranches including those owned by Charlie Allen and A D Bear before moving to Arizona prior to his induction.

Infantile Fund Reaches Five Dollar Milestone Comanche Drive
Contributions exceeding six hundred dollars have been recorded in Comanche since a Friday drive to support the National Foundation For Infantile Paralysis and the Comanche County Chapter. Lions Club sponsors report about five hundred dollars from local businesses and individuals, plus ninety point twelve from Girl Scouts. Proctor School Athletic Association sent five dollars in support while rural areas added more. The March of Dimes drive ended January 31 but donations continue, usable at local banks or with Lions Club members or at The Chief. About one hundred fifty dollars was raised in De Leon for the fund.
