Campaign gets underway to erect a Boy Scout building in Comanche with a meeting planned Monday. Lt Colonel George R. Buckey, long-serving Flying Fortress commander of the Eighth Air Force, promoted from major, and his wife Maxine Buckey and infant son are in Comanche with her parents. Buckey, decorated with the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, has been overseas about eighteen months and led the “Clay Pigeon” squadron from England since 1943. His flagship is the Flying Fortress “Comanche.”

J. V. (Virgil) Carter Sr., 63, longtime Comanche County resident, died Monday at All Saints Hospital Fort Worth after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Comanche Funeral Home with Rev. E G Gregory Jr and Rev. R B Hooper officiating. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Survived by wife Nora Brown and children including Mrs Boyce Briscoe Fort Worth and Mrs F S Clark Nocona. siblings and grandchildren also noted. Carter owned Proctor Telephone Exchange and once ran a Proctor grocery. He lived four miles northeast of Comanche on a ranch at time of death.

A Fort Worth hospital reports 23 year old First Lt Nig Robertson of Comanche died from injuries from the January 30 Big Spring Army Air Field crash that killed another pilot and injured three. Military services were held in Comanche with a rifle salute and interment at Oakwood Cemetery.
