Gall Judged Grand Champion at Comanche County Livestock Show
The Tenth Annual Junior Livestock Show held January 25 26 in the Higginbotham Building drew top entries from across Comanche County. Bill Lane Comanche 4 H Club won grand champion with a Shorthorn calf bred by J Doss Miller and fed by Lane. Kenneth Johnston Comanche FFA second with Hereford calf Henry Lee. Reserve champion went to Johnston. Judges from John Tarleton College and AAA officiated. FFA and 4 H judging crowned top placers in hog poultry cattle and breeding stock with wide participation from Comanche and nearby towns.

Meeting at Belgian Mess Links Two Comanchean Sergeants
Mrs. Boyd Anthony says her husband Sergeant Boyd Anthony now with American Forces in Belgium met Sergeant J. B. Dupuy at a Belgian mess hall. Anthony had moved from France to Belgium and the pair, both Comancheans, shared a table. Anthony was former vice president of the State National Bank, Comanche, before entering service. Dupuy was a former employee of The Chief and held a Government Civil Service job at enlistment.

Frank Ray Injured After Fall While House Moved
Frank Ray lineman for Texas Power & Light was injured Wednesday afternoon when he fell about eighteen feet from a house roof being moved near the Allegra residence in Comanche. He suffered a broken left leg in two places, a dislocated elbow, and other bruises and is hospitalized in Brownwood.

Piggly Wiggly Boys Prize Winning Calf at Comanche Show

Income Tax Helpers To Be Here Feb 8 9

Good Attendance at Birthday Dance Aids Infantile Paralysis Fund
Attendance was strong at the President's Birthday Dance held in Higginbotham Motor Company’s new building to raise funds for the National Infantile Paralysis Fund Drive. About 150 dollars was raised with no admission fee. profits from drinks and hat checks supported the cause. The seven piece Camp Bowie orchestra donated services, Higginbotham Bros. & Co. provided the building, and organizers thanked all contributors. A separate Comanche Youth Dance at KP Hall last Friday raised 25.75 dollars for the fund with all expenses paid by sponsors.

Pvt Allen Beck Wounded Again in Belgium Action
Pvt Allen Beck was wounded a second time in Belgium when a machine gun bullet hit his wrist while fighting Germans. He is hospitalized in France. His wife, former Miss Jewel Kirkland, received the Purple Heart this week for his earlier French wounds. His first injury was neck shrapnel.

Jackson Announces Re-Election Bid for City Marshal
Vollie L. Jackson authorizes The Chief to announce his candidacy for re election as City Marshal of Comanche. The election is set for the first Tuesday in April the 3rd. Jackson, a former sheriff, was appointed two years ago and elected to the position in April 1942.

Pvt Evans Lafe Reported Missing Now Safe From Germany
Pvt Rex Evans 24 son of Mr and Mrs Clayte Evans of Comanche was listed as missing in Germany on December 23 but turned up safe after seven days behind German lines. He and a patrol of eleven men hid by day and moved at night to rejoin their outfit, returning to France and now in a hospital with frozen feet.

Community Memorial Center plans progress in Comanche
The Comanche area sponsors announce tentative floor plans for a $30,000 Community Center to honor World Wars I and II servicemen. The project is led by the Comanche American Legion Post, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, Garden Club and Study Club with broad community access and a flexible auditorium. More than $7,000 has been raised toward the $30,000 goal, and organizers urge donations large or small to complete the fund. A canvass for funds will run soon, with contributions welcomed from former Comanche residents and area supporters.

Scrap Paper Wanted By Local Boy Scouts
The Boys Scouts will collect paper from Comanche residences Sunday morning. Tie paper and magazines in separate small packages and leave near the street curb. Collections occur every sixth Sunday, delayed one week if it rains. Country residents should place items on the sidewalk south of Higginbothams. The Scouts keep all money from the scrap paper.
