Annual Christmas Greetings Feature to Be Published Next Tuesday

The chief's annual Christmas issue, a long running feature, will publish next Tuesday. It will include greetings from businesses, ideals and professional women, and Santa Claus letters from children. Many letters may not reach readers before Christmas but toy leftovers are expected to be shared later.

100 Year Old Sam Houston Letter Uncovered in Texas

George B Black of Comanche found a 1847 Sam Houston letter to Col. Joseph Ellis in poor but legible condition. The missive, dated June 12 1847 from Raven Hill Grand Cove Texas, bears Houston's seal and details health, travel plans, land talks near Huntsville and family notes.

Flood Central Hearing Set For Comanche Jaw

War Department announces a January 8 hearing by the Corps of Engineers on flood control for the Brazos River basin in Comanche County. Public input encouraged to present data supporting improvements on upper and middle watersheds not in April Congress reports. Funeral Rites Held for Tom McMahan

Funeral rites were held Sunday December 15 at Toliver Cemetery near Lamkin for Tom McMahan 86 who died the preceding Friday at Glen Rose where he had lived 25 years. Native of Tennessee he lived many years at Lamkin and is survived by his widow Mrs Cora McMahan and by three step children Mrs Mary Moss Mrs Charlie Epps and Spencer Epps.

Comanche Plans $275,000 Bonded City Improvements

At a recent meeting the Comanche City Council outlined a 1947 improvement program financed by a $275,000 bond issue. The plan includes a new Leon River water system with filtration, mains, sewer extensions, and street work while maintaining current tax levels. County Farmers Pay $160,000 For Legume Seed

Comanche County leads Central Texas in legume seed purchases with over $100,000 spent on winter seed. R H Nelson of the Production and Marketing Administration predicts his 15 county district will yield 15,000,000 pounds of vetch seed this year, matching last year’s national total. Brown, Eastland and Erath counties report $15,000, $29,000 and $30,000 in seed purchases respectively.

Mrs Lena Robinson wife of J W Robinson president of the First State Bank of Gustine and longtime manager of Gustine Mercantile Company died Monday in a Brownwood hospital after weeks of illness Funeral services were set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church Gustine with interment in Union Cemetery She was born Lena Palmer and was active in civic and church affairs in Gustine She is survived by her husband a brother Ed Palmer and a sister Mrs Eva Compton all of Gustine.
