The chief's annual Christmas issue, a long running feature, will publish next Tuesday. It will include greetings from businesses, ideals and professional women, and Santa Claus letters from children. Many letters may not reach readers before Christmas but toy leftovers are expected to be shared later.

Death of Jake Howell linked to attack on December 11 in De Leon. Marriages listed include Paul W Side with Wanda J Kay, A C Silvey Jr with Jewell Marie Hasty, Leonard Monroe Moore with Ollie Mae McNutt, and many others. George B Black of Comanche found a 1847 Sam Houston letter to Col. Joseph Ellis in poor but legible condition. The missive, dated June 12 1847 from Raven Hill Grand Cove Texas, bears Houston's seal and details health, travel plans, land talks near Huntsville and family notes.

War Department announces a January 8 hearing by the Corps of Engineers on flood control for the Brazos River basin in Comanche County. Public input encouraged to present data supporting improvements on upper and middle watersheds not in April Congress reports. The Leon River projects include Belton Reservoir and north fork channel work to protect Eastland. authorized by the 1946 Flood Control Act.
A Coggin Avenue Baptist Church choir of thirty nine voices will perform The Songs of Bethlehem, a Christmas cantata, Wednesday evening at 7 30 at the First Baptist Church in Comanche. Miss Dorothy McIntosh directs. Free will offering for the Lottie Moon Foreign Missions Fund.

State Liquor Control Board officers seized 305 pints of intoxicating liquor from the County Jail last week. Only five pints remain for emergencies by physician prescription after multiple raids across the county in recent months.
Mrs. Walter Wagnon of Texaco New Mexico former County Treasurer and Mrs. Mortis Pursley of Los Angeles California visit their father Jim Boyton who is seriously ill in Texaco.
Comanche Lions Club plans a Mile of Dimes fundraiser on Friday December 20 through Monday December 23. Proceeds stay in Comanche County for local charity work, with booths at Durham's Pharmacy and City Bakery. The drive supports needy residents and echoes the club’s history of glasses for children and toy distributions at Christmas.
The district attorney warns of a statewide increase in forgery offenses. Any check may be forged despite its appearance, and identification can be forged as well. Citizens should report fakers to officers to help catch criminals wanted in multiple jurisdictions.
Sidney Baptist Church votes to appoint a full time pastor. Weekly schedule expands to two services on Sundays at 11:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Officers elected for Women’s Missionary Society Brotherhood and Baptist Training Union. Homer Davenport named pastor. Sunday School at 10:00 a.m. Public programs to include Sunbeam Royal Ambassador and Girls’ Auxiliary chapters once leaders trained.
De Leon’s 10 A champions lead with three selections on the district eleven. Eastland places five players, with Comanche, Hamilton, and Dublin each contributing one. Benny Blitch of De Leon earns unanimous coach support. Wade Phifer of Comanche noted by fans but not named.
Dewey O. Williams, Comanche garage owner for nine years, moves his business into a new modern tile building five blocks out on the Fort Worth Highway. The shop will offer a larger stock of new and used auto and truck parts and continue to specialize in auto glass installation.
J. H. Williford announces a Christmas Eve event at Hasse Baptist Church on December 24. Everyone is invited to attend.
Funeral rites were held Sunday December 15 at Toliver Cemetery near Lamkin for Tom McMahan 86 who died the preceding Friday at Glen Rose where he had lived 25 years. Native of Tennessee he lived many years at Lamkin and is survived by his widow Mrs Cora McMahan and by three step children Mrs Mary Moss Mrs Charlie Epps and Spencer Epps.
At a recent meeting the Comanche City Council outlined a 1947 improvement program financed by a $275,000 bond issue. The plan includes a new Leon River water system with filtration, mains, sewer extensions, and street work while maintaining current tax levels. The package is to be voted on by citizens within thirty days, with Mayor W. C. House and officials urging support.
The Soda Springs Club women sponsor a Christmas tree at Soda Springs School house on Wednesday night December 18. Everyone invited to attend and bring a gift, names drawn after all are present. Old Santa will hand out fruit and candy to the children. Mrs. O. M. Scott returns from Christenval treatment, reported improved. Paul Cato, formerly of Comanche, visits from Lamesa.
Comanche County leads Central Texas in legume seed purchases with over $100,000 spent on winter seed. R H Nelson of the Production and Marketing Administration predicts his 15 county district will yield 15,000,000 pounds of vetch seed this year, matching last year’s national total. Brown, Eastland and Erath counties report $15,000, $29,000 and $30,000 in seed purchases respectively.
Mrs Lena Robinson wife of J W Robinson president of the First State Bank of Gustine and longtime manager of Gustine Mercantile Company died Monday in a Brownwood hospital after weeks of illness Funeral services were set for Wednesday at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church Gustine with interment in Union Cemetery She was born Lena Palmer and was active in civic and church affairs in Gustine She is survived by her husband a brother Ed Palmer and a sister Mrs Eva Compton all of Gustine.
A cantata titled Chorus In The Sky will be performed at Gustine First Baptist Church on Sunday night. Roland Miller will direct the choir with Mrs Ed Palmer at the piano and Rev Jimmy Dobbs as pastor will narrate the story.
Mr and Mrs Euell Arthur returned Saturday from Big Lake where they attended the funeral of Mrs Arthur's brother A A Cartwright. Cartwright a World War I veteran and member of the 36th Division. Virgil Wallace son in law of Mrs R H Davenport left Sunday for Brunswick Maine.
