Veterans groups host Christmas celebration in Comanche

The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars plan a Saturday program on the court house square with a concert fiddling contest and speeches led by Tate Counts a World War I veteran and De Leon postmaster. They announce unity on building plans for a shared Veterans Building near the Masonic Temple and vow to serve the community and ex servicemen.

Birth of Son for Mrs Eltos Dudley Nce

Comanche Girl Scouts Host Monday Night Card Tournament

The Comanche Girl Scouts stage a Monday night event in the Durham Pharmacy Building on the square to raise funds. Bridge rummy forty two and dominoes will be played starting 7 30 PM with a floor show and food for sale. Tickets cost 50 cents at the door or in advance. Proceeds go to the Girl Scouts.

Peanuts Move To Market Here At Steady Pace

About 85 percent of the Comanche County peanut crop has been harvested and five percent less moved to town. Up to Saturday Nixi total 20 229 000 pounds handled at public scales. Denny and local buyers project 24 000 000 to 25 000 000 pounds for the season with all peanuts likely harvested within ten days of good weather. Principal buyers include Durhams Pecan and Peanut, Texas Peanut, and Luke Grove.

Deer hunt and family visit noted in local scene

J. EB. Steele and Thelston and Troy Hanson join a deer hunt this week. Mr. and Mrs. James Travis with Tony and Joan spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Cunningham at Mercer Gap. D. C. of Tyler visited relatives in Comanche.

Robert Arms Bags 18 Point Buck In Medina County Hunt

Robert Arms of Proctor killed an eighteen point deer last week in Medina County near Hondo. B. R. Pinson of Proctor also bagged a buck. Dr. C. C. Pinson of San Antonio joined the hunt with the Proctor men. Arms buck had the most points reported by a Comanche County hunter.

Funeral Rites for Austin Gage Held in Sherman

Funeral services were conducted at Key Memorial Methodist Church Sherman for Austin Gage 65 retired clerk and Sherman post office employee. He died Monday at his home Sherman Rt. 3 son of the late Mr and Mrs G W S Gage and spent youth in east Comanche.

Local Firm Ships 35 Carloads of Dressed Turkeys

Farmers Cheese & Produce Company reports shipping 35 carloads of dressed turkeys as part of the 1946 season. Andy H Norris explains many loads moved by truck to Fort Worth headquarters. A carload weighs about 24000 pounds and staffing has been 50 to 60 workers since the season opened in September. Other Comanche producers, County Produce Company Butler's Produce Jim Lacy's Produce and Norrid's Produce, also shipped many turkeys this season.
