Mrs Lindsey widow of N R Lindsey deeded her Comanche homestead to the city for a hospital. City Council accepted the gift and voters will decide on bonds and an WPA grant. Six acres are rock fenced with fertile land, and a plan considers leasing to private operators.
In Comanche County farmers opposed the AAA measure to apply the marketing quota for the 1939 cotton crop. Across the county 238 voted against and 183 for the proposal, aligning with statewide and national results that favored marketing quotas less strongly. County agent J. W. Roberson lists box totals showing mixed support across towns such as Brown County ties and varied margins in others.
November tax receipts totaled 21248.00, down from 28177.22 in 1937. Officials cite tax rate changes and delinquent payments as factors while October receipts stood at 14574.65. Humble Company led with 6151.25 paid to the county school.
Tax receipts total 213 issued in county court by Tuesday morning. Homer Palmer as tax collector notes millions assessed and hundreds may be disfranchised as 1939 progresses. Several key elections loom next year with a proposed state amendment to abolish the poll tax and extend county officer terms to four years.
Brownwood inspector J. D. Pelphrey and local officers conducted weekend raids arresting Elza Billingslea Gustine and R. D. Woods Comanche plus Jim Sanford Comanche and Mrs Billa Sutton Comanche. Seizures totaled 77 cans beer 114 gallons unstamped liquor 33 pints tax paid liquor and 1 gallon port wine.
About seventy five agricultural workers gathered at Lake Eanes on Thursday morning December 8 for a meeting and banquet. Principal speaker was Hon Clyde L Garrett United States Congressman from Eastland. Guests included W I Glass District Agent from A M and C W Limberg Brown County parent. E Scudder Comanche County Agent spoke briefly. Soil conservation measures dominated discussions and a barbecue luncheon followed at noon.
Community members rally at the event to assist Cheapeapae’s son Ay Cheapeapae in a local game. Attendees include Sursee and supporters who provide encouragement and aid during the match.
The HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM hosts a Sunday December 18 performance at 6 PM featuring the Snow Girls Choral Club in a scaled program of carols and scenes from A Christmas Carol. Cast includes Scrooge, Fred, Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit, and a Spirit of Christmas alongside carolers and shepherds.

Mrs Harold Rylee, 26, of Granbury was killed Monday night when their automobile wrecked on Highway 10. Two companions were injured in the same crash.
W A Andrew Pate was elected nightwatchman of Comanche at a mass meeting in the district courtroom. Twenty two applications for the $75 per month post, with Pete Carroll Magness and R A Brantley leading the runoff. Final vote Pate 54 Magness 25 Brantley 11. Pate, former City Marshal and Deputy Sheriff, succeeds Philip Dingus who resigned due to ill health after five years. A unanimous resolution praised Dingus and regret his resignation. Committeemen A P Cox Walter Durham and O O Brightman were named to organize.
Thomas L. Masters a long time Comanche County resident died at his home eight miles southeast of Comanche on Saturday December 10 at 5 p m Funeral services were held at 3 p m Sunday in the Shiloh church with Rev J H Reynolds and Rev Lath Smallwood and Rev L E Masters among speakers He was born December 12 1850 in Whitfield County Georgia married Malvina Black in November 1873 and had seven children four died in infancy Two sons George W Masters and Lula Masters live near Comanche He moved from Georgia to Texas in 1884 and lived forty four years at his death He joined the Missionary Baptist Church in Georgia and later was a charter member of Tabernacle Baptist Church Gustine He wished to be buried on Sunday so friends and relatives could attend and many came to pay respects.

The Comanche Indians face the Comanche Exes this afternoon at 2 30 in a charity football game to raise money for clothing food and fruit for Comanche needy. Proceeds go to the Comanche Fire Department with church Bible classes aiding in distribution. John Reese and Shorty Vineyard lead the Exes while Coach Glenn Frazier starts regulars for the Indians.
The Second Year Home Economics girls host a style show at the New Majestic on Friday night December 16. Proceeds benefit the state rally winner fund. Tickets cost 10 cents for children and 20 cents for adults.
A round robin basketball tournament begins at Hasse Gymnasium Friday night and runs through Saturday. Boys and girls teams are invited to enter, with Proctor Newburg Pettit Gustine and Hasse listed as expected entrants. Coach Bob Sneed invites any other teams to attend Friday night.
The Five County Singing Convention will be held Sunday December 18 at Early High School, three miles northeast of its location, with community music participation expected.
Reports from Shrum and Sipe Springs indicate new wells coming in. The Rising Star Record notes a successful offset well for R C McCarter in Shrum on Mrs Mary Smith tract east of Ro First estimates say production reached about a barrel per hour. McCarter’s offset west of Whiteside Bros. and Tom Smith tract drilling, Rush Oil Co. active on Morgan tract, E M Howard and partners drill Casper tract near Whiteside with a dry hole reported.
Local schools will close for Christmas holidays Wednesday December 21 at the regular dismissal hour. Superintendent J D Bramlette announces the vacation continues through Sunday December 31 with re opening the following Monday morning.
