Fatal Mistake Claims Gustine Traveler Ewell Alsup

Ewell B. Alsup, a traveling man from Gustine, died Sunday evening after mistaking poison for cold tablets. He died at his mother's home, Ophelia Alsup, where he had gone for a bath and reportedly asked for medical aid as he believed he was dying. Burial was Tuesday at Alsup cemetery with Rev. O. A. Morton officiating. He leaves a wife formerly Ruth Sadler and siblings Murl, Strailey, Jesse, and Jim, all of Gustine.

Sidney Community Club Elects Leaders for 1929

The Sidney Community Club re organized for another year at the school auditorium last Friday evening with K. D. Statom re elected president and Mrs. Beulah Blackshear secretary. Two road committees were named to improve school bus routes. A program followed featuring a one act play and songs by Juniors and Seniors.

Highway designation sought for federal aid route

H Burks of Brownwood Chamber of Commerce and R A Thompson of Dallas Chamber met Comanche County officials to push a federal designation for a highway. If approved the federal government would fund 60 percent of costs. The route would run from Texarkana to Presidio via Dallas Comanche Cleburne Stephenville Brownwood Coleman San Angelo and beyond. Road surfaces exist or are being built along the corridor with a remaining crosscounty gap to be paved after designation.

Peerless Cream Establishes Two Fresh Milk Routes

Two new milk and sweet cream routes were started by Peerless Cream and Produce Co. on Monday. One route serves the Hasse area along Comanche Rural Mail Route No. 1, and the other runs along the Gustine road briefly, reaching the Board Church territory.

Gustine Plans Ten Week Evening Dairying School

Gustine Public Schools announce a ten week evening dairying program starting January 8. The course will run each Tuesday under A J Spangle from John Tarleton College with helper Red Smith and county agent J A Barton. Aim to aid farmers with dairy problems, feed utilization, and marketing methods. The program is the county's first of its kind, with similar schools planned for other points.

Gorman High Wins District Championship

Gorman High School football team clinched the district title after defeating Anson. The district standings show German leading with .875, Comanche and De Leon at .710, Dublin .666, with several teams posting lower percentages. Christmas Pageant at Presbyterian Church Sunday

The Presbyterian Church will hold regular service next Sunday at 11 o'clock with no evening service due to the pastor preaching at Proctor. A Christmas pageant Pris oners of Hope will be shown Sunday evening December 23rd with final rehearsal next Wednesday. The pageant features Christmas hymns and invites public attendance. Pastor Dr. Forrest Maddox to resign in Alabama move

Dr. Forrest Maddox announced his intended resignation as pastor of the First Baptist Church. He said he will leave at year end to assume a pastorate in Alabama after serving Comanche since 1925 with earlier posts in Olklahoma and Stockton. Miss Callie Rose will move to Brownwood to study music at Howard Payne College.

New Methodist Church Building Planned With Modern Facilities

The building committee adopted temporary plans for a new Methodist church. A two story 50 by 96 foot structure with basement and auditorium is proposed, with Sunday school rooms and entertainment areas. Subscriptions were secured, a financing committee named, and Rev. LaPrade praised the progress as plans move toward March 1st start under Ft Worth architect W. C. Meadows.
