Machinery moves to hold a Saturday December 7 vote naming AAA farmer committeemen in Comanche County. Nominating committees selected candidates. voting runs 9 AM to 5 PM with ballots listing nominees and space to write ins. Senior Scout Chapter Formed Post 70 Explorer Unit Organized

A Senior Scout Chapter and Explorer Post 70 were organized Monday night under Browood District Scout Executive Guy Smith and Comanche district leader Ben Evridge. The meeting at the new Boy Scout house near the city reservoir established eligibility ages 15 to 21 and named Charles W. Marshall and D Massingill as advisers and committeemen.

Tatum Opens Electric Appliance Store in Brownwood Area

J. B. Tatum opens an electric appliance store at Nabers Grocery on Brownwood Highway and North Elm Street and plans to move into a new building west of the store upon completion. An advertisement with more details will run in The Chief next week.

Allen Recovers From Major Operation In Fort Worth

H O Allen manager of the J T Mays Company furniture store in Comanche has been released from a Fort Worth hospital after a major operation two weeks ago and is reported to be gaining strength. He is not expected to return to work for at least three months.

Bud Newsome Earns Certificate at State Police School

Bud Newsome city marshal of Comanche attended a State Police Short Course School in Austin and received a merit certificate for his record in the course. Also visiting in Thanksgiving were Mrs. Blanche Long of Los Angeles Mrs. J. M. Coleman of Brady Dr. and Mrs. E. E. Anthony Jr. and daughter Carol of Fort Worth.

Plans For New Ward School In Comanche Area

Comanche Independent School District adopts plans for a new Ward School building to be funded locally with rural districts transporting their own students starting 1947 48. Consolidation is rejected as not in district interests while Wyatt C Hedrick of Fort Worth is hired to prepare architectural plans and estimates for a ten to twelve room facility.

The American Legion and Women’s Auxiliary held a Thanksgiving dinner on November 21 at Comanche High School Lunch Room. Bill Chambers of Brown County gave an engaging talk urging personal responsibility for world peace. The next Legion Auxiliary meeting is December 5 at 7:30 p.m. in the courthouse. members should attend and bring prospective members for river-valley improvement efforts in De Leon at 7:30 p.m.

The mayor announces a wide program for next year including Leon River low head dam water project four large sewer main extensions four water main extensions for fire protection fifty blocks of street improvements and new street signs. Man Arrested on Rape Assault Charge Here

Local officers arrested J. R. Sizemore on an assault with intent to rape charge filed in Justice Precinct No. 1 Court of Comanche County. The 12 year old girl escaped unharmed. Sizemore, on parole for a prior conviction, is held in the County Jail without bond after Gov. Stevenson revoked clemency.

Comanche High Plans District 9 A Cage Schedule

Supt. Virgil Chaffin announced Comanche High School district 9 A basketball schedule. Games include Gorman at Comanche January 3 and De Leon at Comanche February 7 with a tournament at Comanche February 14. The tournament winner faces the single round robin winner for the district title.
