Military Rites Held Tuesday For Sgt ML Jones

Sgt Marvin L Jones of the 146th Engineers was killed on D Day and buried in Saint Laurent France. He was returned to Texas aboard the Army transport Robert Burns along with 250 other war heroes. He survived by his parents two sisters and four brothers.

Chief to Be Out Early Next Week

The Comanche Chief will publish one day early next week with a Wednesday printing instead of Thursday. Advertisers and the public are urged to submit ads and items earlier. The paper will reach Comanche County readers on Thursday for five days of holiday shopping. Santa letters will be published again, with youngsters invited to drop off or mail them. On Tuesday, December 23, the Chief will issue its annual Christmas Greeting Edition.

Funeral Rites Held Here For Dr. Harry Farmer

Funeral rites for Dr. Harry L. Farmer 52 prominent Cleveland Ohio doctor x ray specialist were held at the home of Mrs Grace F Robertson Wednesday Dec 10 at 10 am. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery. Reverend C C Klingman pastor of the Christian Church of Honey Grove conducted the services. Dr. Farmer son of the late Mr and Mrs J N Farmer native of Comanche educated in Comanche public schools graduated from Howard Payne College in 1914 received medical degree in 1918 from Baylor then entered the Navy during World War I serving as a commissioned officer in the Medical Corps. He practiced in Ranger then Boston for X rays returned to Texas and set up practice in Fort Worth for three years. Twenty years ago he moved to Cleveland where he has been with the Thomas Farmer Sackett Clinic. Farmer died Friday in Cleveland from a heart attack. He was associated with the American Roentgen Ray Society AMA North American Radiological Society Academy of Medicine of Cleveland and other medical organizations and sat on the board of the Euclid Ave Christian Church. Pallbearers were Dr Homer Allen Brownwood Dr L K Ory A P Cox Park Huntington Frank Reese and Henry Moore all of Comanche. Survivors are his wife the former Mary Snider native of Brady three sons William B. Farmer St Louis Mo James P. Dudney's Cleaners Slightly Damaged By Fire

Dudney's Dry Cleaners sustained light damage from a Thursday afternoon blaze in the floor part of the Sherwood McDonald Building on the north side of the square. The fire was hard to extinguish, and the Dudneys praised the Volunteer Fire Department for their speedy control. The Lucners thanked friends and customers for patience during the past week.

Higginbothams opened a new Stephenville motor firm in a $75,000 ultra modern building near the Y on Fort Worth Highway. The Empire Tribune traces Higginbotham Bros. & Co. from 1881 beginnings at De Leon to a nine store chain with offices in Dallas and a 1931 succession of leadership under J. M. and R. W. Higginbotham, T. J. Williams.

Eastland to meet Stamford for regional title Friday night

Proctor Cage Tourney Opens With County Teams

The Proctor basketball tournament opens Thursday night December 11 and runs to Saturday with teams from Comanche Mills Brown and Erath Counties. Admission is 10 and 25 cents. Priddy Wins Top Honors in Sidney Cage Tournament

The Priddy boys and Priddy girls won both divisions of the Sidney basketball tournament held December 4-6 at Sidney High School gym. Proctor and Comanche teams also played, with finals decided by Beattie, Priddy, and Sidney players. The all tournament girls team included Dewitt, Grimes, and Hohertz, while boys honors went to Cagle, Eads, Tiemann, and R. Tiemann.
