A weeklong district court session ended with three hung juries and mixed felony convictions. Six defendants were convicted of drunken driving with fines and costs. Burglary cases topped others, and penitentiary sentences were handed down with some suspended.
Cotton men report 2250 bales received up to Tuesday noon in Comanches. Denny Yard weighed 1253 bales and Brightman Warehouse housed over 1200 bales with government loans secured. Officials expect about 200 bales counted twice across the two reports.

Mary Ann Elizabeth Lake White a longtime Sidney resident born April 11 1861 in Alabama died December 4 1937 at her Sidney home. Funeral at Pendergrass Cemetery Sunday at 10 with Rev. Walter Scott. Survived by four sons Sam Aaron John Joe. one son Jim deceased. one brother Arthur Lake. a stepdaughter Mrs Simon Robertson. twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
There will be services at St Matthews Church Sunday at 11 a m. Rev L S Jeffreys of Brownwood will have charge of the services according to church officials.
J. W. Small of Lamesa writes in The Chief that he has sold his land and asks to stop his advertisement. He notes many readers and letters from readers.
A White Christmas will be observed at the Methodist Church Sunday night December 19 during the evening service. Rev E N Scarlett pastor says the event is sponsored by church ladies and invites all to attend. Gifts brought will be distributed to the city’s needy and placed where most needed.
Eight people completed a 20 hour American National Red Cross Standard First Aid Course this week under instructor Roy Rambo. Recipients were Earl Davis R B Ewing Moody Helmecke R G Jones Mrs Artie McMillen Bob Stough Dan Weatherby and Miss Ethel Wilson. Ten others attended for general review.

The Comanche Chief urges readers to begin Christmas buying with stores loaded with holiday merchandise. Merchants boast a big variety of goods, attractive displays, and festive windows as shoppers from near and far descend for the season. The paper encourages generosity to the needy and celebrates Yuletide spirit.
The top price paid for turkeys Thursday was 16 1 2 cents per pound. The Christmas market opened at 15 cents and will close Saturday night, with dealers still buying from those who do not market their birds by then. Six or seven cars are expected to be shipped from the Farmers Produce Company's dressing plant, which is near capacity, as about 300 workers handle the market this week.
Postmaster J. R. Eanes urges early Christmas mail to ensure proper handling. He notes peak congestion before Christmas with overworked clerks and stressed delivery conditions. Sealed cards have lower rates and can be forwarded or return addressed, while unsealed cards cannot be returned or forwarded.

H. W. White, previously receiving treatment in a Brownwood hospital, was brought home Friday night after his hospitalization.
Children in Comanche County are invited to write Santa Claus in care of the Chief office. Letters must be sent or brought in two weeks before Christmas. The letters will be published in the paper and Santa will read each one before departing the Far North with his presents.
Carmel Dwain Ward four year old son of Mr and Mrs C D Ward of Sidney died December 2 at their home after a long illness. He was born February 6 1933 in the county. Interment took place in Sidney Cemetery that afternoon.
The music appreciation class displays a short skit from the opera Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck in the high school auditorium Friday at three o clock. Patsy Ruth Kine wrote the parts directed and oversaw costumes and staging. Fifth grade children were chosen for the roles.
Local officers with state board support raided a North De Leon dance hall Saturday night seeking to shut down illegal establishments. The operation targets venues selling liquor against county law as part of a broader crackdown to remove such places from business.
Rev. H. J. Sanders announces Quarterly Conference at Indian Creek Church on Tuesday December 14 with the presiding elder preaching at 11 p m dinner on the ground and a 2 p m business session. He will preach at White Point next Sunday at 10 a m and then at Harmony Church at 11 a m and 7 p m.
Avery Moore of eight miles northwest of Comanche killed a seven foot five and a half inch winged American eagle near Round Mountain with a shotgun after first striking at it with rocks. He showed the carcass on the square in town last Saturday.
After a fourteen year lapse Brother C C Klingman resumed work with our congregation delivering morning and evening services. He will preach Sunday morning December 12 at eleven and at seven fifteen that evening the Meth odists Presbyterians and Disciples unite in a service at the Methodist Church with Klingman delivering the message. Whaley Smith of De Lean caught a seven pound bass at Lake Eanes last week. Sportsmen report good fishing with bass biting and many ducks on the lake.
Comanche Monday liquor sale raises 433 for whiskey and 76 for beer organized by Sheriff Wid Spivey from seized stock. Bidders include Big Spring, Sweetwater, Brownwood. state board bid withdrawn after reviewer found better liquor elsewhere. 75 percent to Old Age Assistance Fund, 25 percent to School Fund.
Hasse High School captured the boys invitation basketball title at Sidney defeating Newburg in the final. Newburg beat Sidney to reach the final as other teams entered included May Beattie Comyn Gustine Sipe Springs.
D. E. Howard announces a Newburg School auditorium event tonight featuring one act plays and other numbers. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.
