Warning device planned for blind crossing on South Houston

The Texas Highway Commission approved an automatic crossing protection device for the blind crossing on South Houston Street in Comanche. The project aims to prevent accidents after a fatal incident last year. State funds 80 percent, railroad 10 percent, city 10 percent. city share about 900 dollars.

Santa Letters To Be Published On Dec. 23

The Comanche Chief announces its Christmas Edition on December 23 featuring Santa Claus letters from local children. Submissions can be delivered to The Chief or mailed to Santa at Box 749 Comanche 76442, with notices for area businesses and features also planned. The paper notes a tight week for material and highlights band achievements at Tarleton State College. Comanche bands led the district contest with 12 first places led by guest clinician Ralph Hale. CHS students named include Debbie Durham, Debbie Grimmer, Jonniemae Bachus, Janda Steward, Cindy Owens, Bridget Conway, Kathy Renshaw, Ken Fails, Wayne Harvey, John McCorkle, Sam Waring, and Nancy Wiles.

Comanche Christmas Decoration Contest Seeks Entries

The Comanche Chamber of Commerce announces a second Christmas Decoration and Lighting contest open to non commercial and non civic displays. An out of town panel will judge after dark on Tuesday December 21. Entries must be listed with the chamber to ensure judges see every home. Awards include 25 dollars for best Christmas theme and 25 dollars for best lighting display. The Civic Affairs Committee directs the event with Roy Brannan Jr as chair and John Huett Bo Elrod Daymond Power and Gary Don Swearengin as members.

CHS Maintains Accreditation

Comanche High School remains accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Principal Lee Presswood and H. Fletcher note accreditation confirms commitment to improvement, with periodic team visits to identify needed growth. Comanche County Registrations for 1972 elections show only 1,773 new certificates issued through Monday, per Tax Assessor-Collector Louise Frans. Last year 5,567 residents registered to vote as elections approach across school districts and governmental units at local, state and national levels.
