Christmas shoppers urged to visit Comanche stores

The Comanche Chamber of Commerce and local merchants promote early shopping for better selection and easier holidays. Free parking around the square, Santa visits on two Saturdays, a kids movie matinee at Maestro Theater, and grocery and radio ads encourage browsing, listening to holiday music, and holiday decorations.

Weldon Turner Heads Local Bass Club

The Lake Proctor Pass Club met with 25 members in the TP&L Hospitality Room to launch a family style club. Officers include Weldon Turner as president and a large yearly bass tournament planned on Lake Proctor. Members are urged to join before December 31 to become charter members.

Light Fire Damage Across Comanche Volunteer Responses

Comanche Volunteer Fire Department answered three general alarms in recent days with light damage. An 8:09 PM Sunday blaze destroyed a small shed behind Eugene Martinez’s home at 402 W Crane. A fire caused by a defective electric blanket damaged a bed at Jim Oliver’s residence, 104 Williams Dr, while the Olivers were elsewhere. A closet clothes blaze at Mrs. Raymond Wysong’s home on N Austin St started from an open gas heater beneath a shelf.

Rev. Boyer Installed as New Vicar at St Matthews

The Rev Blanchard Boyer will lead services at St Matthews Episcopal Church Sunday at 11 a m. He succeeds Rev Robert Rankin who left for Bridgeport Conn last week. Boyer previously led St Margaret Parish in Richardson for 12 years and will move to Comanche this week.

Indians Open District Play at San Saba After Delay

Comanche travels Tuesday as 8AA begins district play with San Saba a strong foe. Coach Gene Westomreland’s Indians sit 2-1 led by freshman John Waggoner with 97 points in three games. Junior High teams the Maidens and Paps host De Leon Monday at 6 p.m. The Maidens beat De Leon 41-20 in a prep game, with Sis sy Andrews leading scoring. Paps opened the season 41-37 loss to Hamilton, Bennie Williams with 11 points. In seventh grade the Paps won 18-16, Matthew Gaines scoring 11.
