Local Couple Weds In Comanche Home Ceremony

Mrs. Mary Alice Williams daughter of C W Williams of Comanche married Saturday night at her parents home to Tom Johnson of Marlin. They plan a West Texas visit then return to Comanche before moving to Abilene. Mrs Johnson is a 1942 Comanche High School graduate and has been at a business college in Lubbock. The groom holds a defense position and has been transferred to Abilene.

All Time High Bank Deposits Recorded in Comanche

Comanche banks report an all time high with over 1.85 million dollars in combined deposits by Wednesday close. Postal Savings also up at more than 53 thousand dollars per Postmaster J R Eanes. Farmers credited with large peanut crop drive the surge away from oil boom days of the 1920s. War Savings Bonds investments not included in the totals.

Defense Meeting Here December 7 At Courthouse

On Monday December 7th a Civilian Defense Forces meeting is planned in the District Court Room to mark the Pearl Harbor anniversary. The program features a musical number speeches and a practice maneuver with war dens medical forces firemen and utilities division invited to attend.

Texas USDA War Board says farm vehicle operators lacking sufficient gasoline on Certificates of War Necessity can request adjustments through local War Price and Rationing Boards. Emergency cases receive temporary rations through December 31 with later deductions from corrected totals, while County Farms Transportation Committees handle appeals using standard ODT forms.

Registration of males turning eighteen during specified periods takes place 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on designated weeks in December 1942. Birthdate groups determine registration weeks. those turning 18 after January 1, 1925 register on their birthday, unless Sunday or holiday. Two Injured In Train Car Crash Near Comanche

Willard Burk owner of Burk's Studio in Comanche and Pvt. I C Woods at Camp Bowie were injured when their car hit an eastbound Santa Fe freight train on South Austin Street three blocks south of the square. Burk suffered a broken leg and facial injuries while Woods had minor cuts. They were taken to Brownwood and Camp Bowie hospitals respectively.

Funeral Rites Held For William Smith

William Robert Smith 58 formerly of Comanche died in an Austin hospital Sunday night after a brief illness. Funeral services were held Monday at the Comanche Funeral Home with interment in Indian Creek Cemetery. He was the son of J. E. and Hattie Smith and a long-time resident of Comanche, a Methodist Church member. Survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ida Wood and Mrs. Jess McCullough, both of Comanche.

Aviation Cadet Miller Hammons Dies in Training Accident

Miller Hammons Jr. age 22, aviation cadet at Goodfellow Field San Angelo, was killed in a plane mishap on Monday. He was nephew to Mesdames Moore and Robertson of Comanche. funeral held at his Donna home Thursday. He had trained at Kelly Field and Sikeston before arrival at Goodfellow.
