In Coman daybreak drizzle and cold weather dampened the mood yet shoppers kept smiles as ranchers and townsfolk prepared for Goodwill Day. Local merchants report rising gift buying with Coman stores loaded with varied gifts and special DEC. 6 promotions to attract customers.
The community ad section lists events and bargains from area businesses including ticket sales for a Lions Club supper at the Altes Building, discounts at Goodwill and Hamilton Beach appliances, and a variety of Christmas specials on furniture, bedding, toys, and decor. Promotions highlight raffles, free ham offers, and store ads for upcoming Wednesday through Saturday sales, with emphasis on low prices and gift items.
Comanche County reports a near record peanut harvest boosting income to about 4.5 million dollars. About 53,000 acres yielded 20 bushels per acre on average with good grades and minimal weather damage. Total yield projected near 1.6 million bushels at around 3.50 per bushel. Hay production and hogging practices noted. local banks report rising deposits from strong crop profits.
The McMurry College Chanters under Dr Robard C Von Ende perform sacred and secular numbers in a 7 36 pm program at First Methodist Church Comanche on December 6 as part of their fall tour across West Texas and New Mexico. The group tours include a girls sextet men’s quartet and many soloists.
Genetha Dale Isham Stevens died after a cerebal hemorrhage suffered early Friday morning. Funeral services were conducted at the Sidney Ren tist Church with burial in Oakwood Cemetery Comanche. She was born February 11 1922 near Comanche and attended Comanche High School.
Comanche High School senior Betty Matthews was named 1955 CHS Band Sweetheart during halftime at the Comanche Brady game on November 20 at Indian Memorial Stadium. Escorting her were Stanton Hughes and Waylon Hilliard as Charles Shank presented flowers.
