Mrs. Thelma Keeter of Sidney appeals for the return of a hero dog that saved her husband Max by waking him during a Thanksgiving dawn fire of undetermined origin. The Spitz and Collie mix named Doggie dashed from the porch and has not been seen since.
Officers for the 1939 Comanche County Interscholastic League were elected at a county meeting in County Superintendent B. Ray McCorkle’s office. Roles include Director General M. C. Kay, with Debates led by Blanche Dabney and various directors for Declamation, Extemporaneous Speech, Spelling, Essay Writing, Athletics, Music Memory, Picture Memory, Arithmetic, Typing, and Choral Singing across local schools.
Fane Smith and Clifford Eison of Gorman drew two year terms in the state penitentiary after pleading guilty to peanut theft in district court before Judge R. B. Cross. They faced charges for stealing fifty five sacks of peanuts from Ed Foot of the Duster community. Eison also faces an Eastland trial on freeing two prisoners from jail at Gorman on October 29 and was captured in Houston on November 25 before being brought to Comanche by local officers.
Hon Clyde L Garrett will speak in Comanche Monday afternoon at 2 30 oclock. Congressman Garrett will be in attendance at Hilton Burks.
Comanche Post Office seeks contractors for star routes with bids from Dreamer Stage Line O L Freeman and Vernon E McKeever. Routes include Comanche to Goldthwaite, Democrat, Sipe Springs and Gustine with varying distances, schedules, box service needs, and bond requirements totaling hundreds of dollars monthly payments.
The 1938 season opened yesterday and will run until January 16, opening for upland game hunting locally. Residents may pursue quail during the period with restrictions posted by authorities.
Comanche Indians meet Brady Bulldogs in a bi-district clash at Brady Friday at 2 PM after a coin toss set the site. Both teams arrive undefeated with strong defenses and potent offenses led by key players Guthrie McMillan Huff and Pate Cox Carnes and Waggoner Anderson. Brady fans urged a business shutdown from 1 30 to 4 39 to attend.
Governor elect Lee O Daniels announces a 30 member unpaid advisory board including Waco cotton mill president Albert Clifton and leaders from oil, education, farming, trucking and commerce across Texas. Members include J W Calhoun of Austin UT acting president, John W Carpenter of Dallas Texas Power and Light, C N Bassett of El Paso banker, J L Lancaster of Dallas Texas & Pacific Railroad, D A Bandeen of Abilene West Texas Chamber of Commerce, Mrs Jack Glidden Clarksville housewife and others from Houston Fort Worth Amarillo and San Antonio.
On Tuesday December 6 at 7 30 p m the Beattie auditorium will stage The Flapper Grandmother a three act musical comedy. The Roy alty play is sponsored by the Wayne P Sewell Producing Co of Atlanta Georgia and brought to Beattie by Beattie Parent Teachers Association. Miss Elizabeth Tharrington of North Carolina coaches the production. The show promises many laughs and a strong backstory with lively choruses and costume novelties.
A large turnout is anticipated in Comanche Monday for the regular First Monday Trades Day. Merchants offer special bargains, with heavy Christmas buying and livestock trading expected as shoppers browse and trade.
