Durham Peanut Co Inc and its subsidiaries were purchased by the Gold Kist Peanut Division of Cotton Producers Association, Atlanta. Pat Cagle said the transfer of all stock and rights completed August 20. The Durham firm employs over 100 people and will be led by Cagle and W M Durham Jr. in the Gold Kist structure.
Major Madden and Paddy Madden’s son and friend Tyler from Dublin University traveled the United States on a $99 Greyhound ticket. They worked on ranches in Wyoming and Nevada and visited many states including Texas, enjoying Dallas and San Antonio before returning to England on September 4.

TV Cable Service announces a new microwave system delivering four channels plus FM music to over 900 Comanche homes. The setup links Dublin Fort Worth with Comanche, cost over $25,000, and aims to complete four channel reception by September 1.
Ann Hathcock daughter of Mr and Mrs John Hathcock spent several days this week visiting her grandmother in Dublin.
Oklahoma visitor Larry Blackwood returns home after a four day Norman visit with cousin Jack Blackwood. Larry traveled by plane from Brownwood and is the son of Dr. and Mrs. W Blackwood. Jack is the son of Dr. and Mrs. E E Blackwood.
Benton Layman died of suffocation in the Billy Gray Grocery Store in Ackerly near Lamesa after a fire alarm, with a $25,000 bond on prior cases in Comanche County. His car stockpiled groceries and cigarettes, the scene showed possible kerosene origin, autopsy confirmed death, services held in Lamesa. He left a wife and two children.
CHS Indian Band conducts daily drills from 7:00 am to 4:30 pm during a week of basic training. Four classes compete for spirit while work on the football show progresses under Drill Sarges and features twirlers, color guard, and drum major Gail Gleaton.

Castle B. Ellis retires as manager of Higginbotham Life Insurance Co after 24 years with the firm. He moved from Abilene to Comanche in 1940 and helped grow the network within a 75 mile radius. Jim Roberts of Proctor will replace him as manager in Comanche.
Wide spread rains from August 15 to August 20 brought 1 to 7 inches across Comanche County. Tanks filled, grass revived, and farmers hopeful for grain and peanut crops. Some prospects turn fair to good where prior conditions were poor. White Point scene captured.
The Gomanche Indians drill daily for the season opener against the Eastland Mavericks on September 4 in Eastland. Coach Roger Oliver praised hustle after a 2 1 verdict in a Burnet scrimmage where the Indians showed strong defense and balanced offense led by Dendy Scott and Gray Jolink.
The Comanche Chief with the Comanche County Electric Cooperative will present a short film produced by the Cotton Producers' Association about the Durham Peanut Co. Inc. operation.
