Omaha style fragmented notice shows Comanche area business court opened by Thelma Cuthbert near the REA Building west of the company lot. Announcement mentions a sale with prices up to 89 per cent in morning and 4 cents a dozen, urging shop customers to visit and save.
Approximately 40 to 50 Comanche High School football hopefuls report Monday morning to Coach Bill Scoggins and assistants Don Walker and Travis Henry for opening workouts. Six lettermen return as Comanche, in District 8-AA, faces heavy graduation losses and a youth-filled lineup. New uniforms arrive as twice-daily workouts begin, with a Sept. 6 opener at McCamey and trips to Graham, Stephenville, Killeen, and Laboees on the schedule.
The FHA Chapter upperclassmen plan a picnic for the freshman girls on Thursday August 29. Girls meet at the Home making cottage at 2 30 select their little sisters and go to the lake for swimming and a picnic.
Plans are set for the second annual meeting of the Comanche County Telephone Co op Association at Lake Eanes Park in Comanche on Friday August 30 Registration is 1 30 to 2 00 p m and the meeting starts at 2 00 p m Five directors will be elected and other rural phone cooperative business will be transacted John Levisay secretary treasurer urges members to attend Directors include Jim Cooper Sidney Charley Hicks John Proctor Jess Hanson and Floyd Fisher Beattie
Burks Transfer & Storage Company of Comanche earned first prize in the Peach and Melon Festival parade in Denton, and also took top honors at the Coleman Rodeo Parade last month. Company owner A P Burke and his son Harold run operations in Comanche and Coleman, with agents for Merchants Fast Freight, North American Van Lines, and others.
The Sidney school term for 1957 58 starts Monday September 2 with a full day and regular bus service. Construction on the new Sidney High School Building continues after flood damage. J W Massingale returns as high school principal and football coach leading a 20 to 25 man squad for 1957 season. faculty list includes Mabel Hall Ruth Wilkerson and Henry Spalding among others.
Good crowds attend the Gustine Baptist revival led by Rev. Roy Hill with Dr. J. M. Bradford of Dublin as evangelist. Choir director Roland Miller oversees song services as the meeting continues through Sunday.
Comanche and Gustine Little Leaguers, about 75 players, plan a Friday trip to LaGrave Field Fort Worth on August 30. Sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the Comanche Chamber of Commerce, they will dine at the Chicken Shack before the game and ride out in private cars to Fort Worth.
Mr and Mrs C L Huett and their son Johnny are vacationing in California this week enjoying coastal scenery and warm weather.
Comanche County Farm Bureau plans its annual picnic at Lake Eanes on Thursday August 29 at 7 pm. Attendees should bring a basket lunch and family dishes. the bureau provides drinks ice and plenty of water. Entertainment features Johnnie Roberson and band with Kenneth Evans R W Taft J M Fisher Lewis Doorman. Taft to play violin. A brief business session follows with ten directors to be elected. Al Graver Texas Farm Bureau executive director will speak.
Brother John W. Reynolds of Tyler will lead a summer revival at the Hasse Tabernacle from Tuesday night August 27 to Sunday September 1. Morning services will begin, with O. N. Irwin of Tyler guiding the singing each night. Everyone is invited to attend.

About 1,500 members attended Omanche County Electric Co operative annual meeting at Indian Memorial Stadium Comanche on August 16. M. A. Richmond and J. M. Foreman retired from the board. B A Ross of May and George Willis of Comanche elected as directors. New officers named W. Bas elected president Ray McCorkle vice president and Troy Pettit secretary treasurer. Awards went to young contestants in Amateur contests and dozens won prizes from a long list of attendance drawings has many volunteers and local performers.
The Livestock Association of Comanche invites members to a 6:30 meeting and 7:30 barbecue Friday. Special guest J B Hale ex FBI agent and former TCU All American tackle will speak on security and firearms training. Coach Mike Murphy and family relocate to Fort Worth for Castleberry High School duties.
Miss Callie West is back home following a two week visit with friends and relatives in Del Rio Cross Plains and other points.
Mrs L J Northcross and sons Joe and Bob from Hawthorne California visited her father Bob Lane and brothers Keith Bruce and Joe Lane here last week. Mrs J H Strother and Mrs R W Hamilton of Comanche with Strother relatives from Liberty Texas attend a Baptist convention in New Mexico this week. The seventh annual Gomonche County Reunion will be held August 25 at Mackenzie State Park Lubbock Texas.
Travis Henry, new Comanche High School basketball coach and assistant football coach, was among 69 graduates at Sul Ross Teachers College Alpine for Master’s degrees Wednesday night.
