Revival Opens Friday At Gartman View

A revival meeting will open Friday August 16 and run through Sunday August 25 at the Gartman View Free Will Baptist Church. Boy Scouts Win District Swimming Meet at Brownwood

The Comanche Troop 74 won the district swimming meet for the Comanche Trail Council at Brownwood municipal pool, scoring 16 points to 11 for Troop 43 and 7 for Troop 52. Names include Johnnie Lightfoot, Tom Brightman, Rodney Strain, Stanley Rauhut, Harold Perkins, Scotty Morris, and Gary Davis with councilmen J. E. Lightfoot and Oswell Brightman.

Comanche Schools Open September 3 With Full Day

Comanche Public Schools resume with a full day on September 3 led by Superintendent Joe Harper. New staff include Bill Scoggins as head football coach Travis Henry as head basketball coach and assistant football coach. Bernice Swindle and Wyatt Morris become principals with Morris moving to J B Layne Elementary and Swindle to Junior High. Enrollment near 1000 students expected for 1957 58 amid major improvements to CHS including a new agriculture building and updated classrooms.

Jesse Reese Found Dead In Wooded Area Near Farm

Prominent Newburg resident Jesse Franklin Reese two term county commissioner and founder of Reese's Uranium Ranch was found dead near his Newburg home after missing since Friday. A coroner's inquest was delayed pending an autopsy in Austin. Funeral services were held at South Leon Baptist Church with three ministers officiating. Reese, born August 1902 in Comanche County, left a wife Bryinh Mae Perkins and three children, survived by two daughters and a son, plus siblings and grandchildren. The dairy farmer rose to fame after a national TV interview detailing a dramatic health episode in 1952. Continued on Back Page.

Farm Home Destroyed By Fire Near Gustine

The six room Campbell home six miles out on the Gustine highway burned Wednesday night while the family attended a First Baptist revival. Cause undetermined. A Comanche Volunteer Fire department stopped the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. Loss partially covered by insurance. Mr Campbell is a salesman.

Mrs. W. W. Wilson of Comanche will travel to San Francisco to be with her son Billy Wilson who has just returned from Japan and will receive an honorable discharge from the Navy soon.
