Reverend Arthur Johnson Dies Suddenly at 53

Rev. Arthur Johnson pastor of the First Baptist Church in Comanche died at 2 p m Saturday August 16 from a heart attack brought on by over exertion and heat. Funeral services were held August 18 at 10 a m at the First Baptist Church conducted by Rev Clyde Childers and Rev Hal Wingo with burial in Greenleaf Cemetery. Johnson born May 3 1899 in Rocksprings grew up in San Antonio married Helen McWheeney in 1920 and held pastorates in Athens Whitney Smithville Dublin Cisco before serving as Public Relations director for Howard Payne College and Comanche. The church has shown growth since his arrival. Continued on Page 7.

Most County Schools To Owen Sept 8

Comanche County schools prepare for the 1952 53 term with all common schools starting September 8 except Comyn which opens September 4. New and returning teachers are named for Proctor Comyn Hasse Beattie and other schools, with Comyn reclassified as an eight grade school and high students transferring to De Leon.

Rev. John W. Reynolds of Tyler begins a revival at the Hasse tabernacle the Tuesday after the fourth Sunday in August August 26. The meeting runs through the next Sunday night with services daily at 10 30 a m and 8 p m Reynolds a former Hasse pastor invites friends in the region to attend the preaching and singing.

Tent Revival Opens At Shiloh Friday

Rev. D. S. Pettijohn of Throckmorton leads a revival at Old Shiloh Emanuel Baptist Church starting Friday night August 22 with services twice daily The youth night program is scheduled for Tuesday August 26 featuring Throckmorton youths with pastor Rev Bill Carroll of Comanche overseeing the church and Pettijohn having previously served at Gustine and Bushnob Throckmorton.

Comanche Boy Scouts Spend Weekend at Lake Brownwood

Eighteen Scouts with Scoutmaster Herbert Goodson and Assistant Dale Biggs plus J. B. Ruth camped at Lake Brownwood for an overnight trip. Activities included swimming boating and fishing as the group enjoyed the weekend.
