Finis W. Mason known as Cotton Mason aged 67 died Saturday in San Francisco California after a bath tub accident. He had played baseball in the Southern League for several years and later worked as a machinist at Mare Island Ship Yards. He is survived by siblings Mrs. D J Wood Mrs J M Kendall Mrs Ethel Biggs Mrs Clara Carpenter Truman Mason and Earl Mason. Funeral services will be held in San Francisco.
Revival services will be held at Sweetwater Baptist Church from August 16 through August 24, inviting the community to attend daily gatherings led by visiting speakers and local pastors.
Farmers and business people from Comanche gathered at Lake Fanes for the annual Farm Bureau picnic on Tuesday August 12. Officers were elected for another year and reports on the A M College short course were presented by Don Chester and Herbert Brown. Local editors and community leaders attended, with Billy J. Gist explaining Farm Bureau goals and organization while the Hill Billy Band entertained along lunch.
E. V. McCarty a Gustine and Lamkin star and former Southwest Texas State Teachers College athlete is named head coach of Gustine Tigers directing six man football and basketball. Practice starts Sept 1 with a Friday night schedule from Sept 12 to Oct 3 and Thursday night games from Oct 16 to Nov 13 at 7 30.

At a recent board meeting T R Atwood was elected Co manche High School band director for the 1952 53 school year. He succeeds William D Che Bradley resigns to take a teaching post at Sonora. Atwood, former Comanche resident, has led Eastland’s band for five years and will move to Comanche to begin his work. Mrs Jack Vaught was elected to fill the vacant average school position.
A 1952 peanut price support program outlines farm storage loans from August 1, 1952 to January 31, 1953 with maturity May 31, 1953. Eligible producers must have harvested peanuts within their allotment. loans require merchantable stock, low damage and moisture, and specific storage/inspection rules.
