Plans announce a Beattie to Comanche road project led by Lee Morris Precinct 1 commissioner. Citizens and Comanche merchants raise $500 for bridges culverts drainage and right of way while work begins with Beattie community backing a ten mile 60 foot highway set to connect Beattie Duncan Creek to Martin's Branch.

Home Beautiful Campaign Ends September 1

The Home Beautiful contest run by the Lions Club Chamber of Commerce PTA and the Study Club ends September 1 with final inspection in late August. Prizes totalling 175 dollars are offered for best kept premises March 15 to September 1 and include 25, 20 and 15 dollar prizes. Additional 25 dollar awards go to the greatest improvement in grass shrubs painting or dwelling upkeep in each of three districts. A 15 dollar prize goes to renters with the best looking premises regardless of dwelling improvements.

Dates Set for County Fair in Comanche With New Directors

At a Saturday board meeting the County fair dates were moved to September 15 16 17 in Comanche to allow more prep time. New directors added include Mrs W C Langston Mrs S P Smith Mrs G R Pratt and others plus J L Bishop and G C Bryson. Master farmer M A Caraway named fair manager with assistants Judge R A Luker and County Agent Barton.

New Methodist Circuit Parsonage Torn Down for New Cottage

Dozens from the Comanche circuit kicked off a tear down of the 40 year old parsonage on East South Main Street led by Dan McCarthy. Volunteers expect a five room modern cottage with porch and bath on the old grounds within two weeks. The project honors Rev. Ray and his family with meals and social gatherings accompanying the work.

Revival Begins at Comanche Church of Christ

Lyle Price opened a revival at the Comanche Church of Christ on Wednesday August 17 and will run 12 days ending with evening services August 28. Price recently completed a revival at Sidney and previously held one at Comanche last year. Daily services are at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Oil well progress across county fields with mixed results

The Amerado Number 3 on the Waring and Eaves lease near Sipe Springs finished at 1002 feet without oil discovery. Number 4 spudded in on the adjacent Smith lease. Hoffer Well progresses past 1000 feet. Ward Well near Sidney drills through shale at 2700 feet. Corby Well extension requires drilling to start within three weeks.

Grandi Brothers present a four act comedy drama Fool Proof with vaudeville between acts in their depot‑area tent opening Monday night. Great Masonic Golden Anniversary Planned at Hope Lodge

Masons of Hope Lodge No 481 plan a day ceremony and two night programs to celebrate the lodges Golden Anniversary marking the 50 year establishment since September 8. The event invites Masons from neighboring counties while noting the earlier Comanche Lodge No 316 founded in 1868 and dissolved in 1876.

Edsel Ford Announces New Model Car Capabilities

Edsel Ford released the first statements about the forthcoming model on August 15. The notes claim the car would reach 65 mph and run indefinitely at 50 mph without harming the motor. Local Ford dealer P K Mackey declined further comment beyond it won’t be long now.

Three Youths Charged In Van Dyke Chicken Theft

In Van Dyke a coordinated effort led to the arrest of Walter King Donald Brooks and Woodrow Starks on theft charges for stealing chickens. A man named Torm Sutton was charged with selling intoxicating liquor tied to the case. Some birds were found smothered in a sack near De Leon Highway. others were recovered in De Leon. The heaviest losses hit William Grigsby Earl Frost and Calvin Griffin.

New Beauty Parlor to Open in Comanche

Comanche will gain a new beauty parlor located one door south of the Chief office. Mrs Marshall Barcroft will operate it, moving from Sherman and currently in Dallas buying equipment. The shop, with up-to-date gear, opens September 1 and serves the local area.

Meador on a 50 acre Hico farm reports annual income near 4000 to 4500 dollars from dairy activity. He milks 14 cows, plans a milking machine, and notes fertilizer on three acres increasing yield from 45 to about 160 bushels per acre. Manures and improved practices underlie rising prosperity.
