Agriculture, Home crafts and clothing entries welcomed with no food judging. Booth judging for Miss Comanche County contest and local talent display. Ground display of airplanes at the Airport. Evening schedule includes contests and auctions with booths removal by 4:00 p.m. on Sunday August 18.
The School Board approved minutes and a gasoline bid from Exxon for 1974 75. It elected new bus drivers and Clyde Evatt as History teacher and assistant coach. Lunch prices rise 5 cents with mid term review planned. Policy guidelines for Special Education Coop adopted. Henry Colyer was elected to audit 1973 74 books. Monthly bills paid. FFA concession rights given with 25 percent of profits to Athletic Dept. 1974 75 budget discussed and a public hearing set for August 26. Tax roll increased to 27.2 million with additions from 25.6 million. Superintendent H R Jefferies provided a financial report.
Forty one players reported to football practice this week for two a day workouts. The Freshman will have their own team this season and report when school begins Monday. The Indians return eleven offensive and eight defensive starters and host a scrimmage in Winters on August 23. A triple header scrimmage travels to Stephen ville on August 30 before opening the season against Granbury on September 6. Senior and junior and sophomore players listed include Arm strong Bingham Lee Wag goner Wilhelm and Williams, Biggs Bill Davis etc with trainer Ken Vaughn.
Final plans for the Comanche Air Show were set by the Air Show Committee on Friday. The event at Comanche County City Airport on August 17 features U S Army units, helicopter and parachute displays, model planes, and guest pilot W T Todd from Van Alstyne. A luncheon at PAR Country Club follows, with airport closure at 1 30 p m.
The Comanche Ex-Students Association is being organized by the Chamber of Commerce with Director John Gleaton as chairman. The first meeting is planned for Homecoming weekend on Saturday 21. Membership coupons are printed in this week's Chief. eligible graduates are urged to clip and mail $3 to Box 762 Comanche Ex-Students Association.
The Comanche Band Boosters will sell memberships at five dollars each during the Fair. Everyone is invited to join and support the band program. Visit the booster booth at the Fair to join.
The Comanche Indian Band will perform Saturday at 7 15 p m during the Comanche County Fair. The group will play an assortment of popular music for attendees to enjoy.
Masonic officers elected for Hope Lodge No. 481 AF&M for the coming year include Joe Wilie as Senior Warden and Bill Blue as Jr. Warden. Also listed are Ben Wilhelm as Treasurer Daymond Power as Secretary J. C. Hyatt as Sr. Deacon Gary Lacy as Jr. Deacon Aaron Massengill as Sr. Steward Sam Marshall as Jr. Steward O. B. Carthen as Tiler Roy Nelson as Chaplain.
Dr Jerry Don Early DVM has joined Comanche County Veterinary Clinic. He earned a B S in Veterinary Science and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A M University this month and is 24. He is married to Kay Marshall Early and they reside at 206 West Walcott.
At noon Monday forty three booths had been sold for the 1974 County Fair. Groups listed include Band Parents Soil Conservation Comanche County 4 H U S Air Force Arthur Chevrolet Associated Milk Producers Girl Scouts Comanche National Bank and many more organizations and sponsors.
A free immunization clinic will be held daily from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday August 14, Thursday August 15, and Friday August 16 at Comanche Elementary School for booster shots or starting the full immunization series for students and preschool children.
The Proctor Reservoir Weather Station issues a 24 hour report covering temperatures and moisture from a.m. to 8 a.m. The bulletin notes conditions expected to influence local activities and agriculture.
