Comanche Public Schools set in service training for teachers August 14 with students reporting for full day classes August 19. New student registration runs August 12 through 16 at each principal’s office. Enrollment expected near last year with about 1135 students. high school enrollment around 360.

Comanche High School band members held a practice with about 70 students in attendance. Band director expresses pride in the turnout and predicts the strongest Comanche band in years. The schedule lists long practice hours across multiple days this week and next.

Indians Begin Workout Monday 1974 football season

Comanche Indians football starts August 12 at 8 00 am with returning senior lettermen Danny Armstrong Joe Lee Mark Wilhelm Junior Sanchez and others. Sixty five players expected back next week for two a days scrimmages include Winters on August 23 and at Stephenville August 30 with the season opener at Granbury September 6.

Comanche High School adds varsity B team and Freshman squad to 1974 slate. B team opens Sept 5 at Breckenridge with games set against De Leon San Saba Abilene High Coleman Cisco Abilene Cooper Brownwood and Stephenville. Freshmen host Brownwood Sept 12 and play Early B Dublin B Coleman Hamilton Breckenridge Eastland and Stephenville. Indians start Sept 6 vs Granbury with further non district games against De Leon San Saba Dublin. District foes include Coleman Hamilton Cisco Breckenridge Clyde and Eastland.

Scattered rains drenched Comanche County last week with moisture up to four inches in some areas and over three inches in Comanche city. Dependable rainfall reached the peanut belt, lifting prospects as the outlook brightened and rain continued into Tuesday.

Gustine School announces teachers and staff for the new term with Principal Roy Newsom leading science. Don Hodges social studies and coach. Voters Approve Hospital Plan in Comanche Area

Voters approved the hospital issue with 871 for and 729 against. Precincts 1 and 2 in the City of Comanche supported the measure, while the surrounding area voted against. Voting details varied by precinct.

Hanks Elected President Of Permanent Comanche Hospital Board

Hanks becomes president of the permanent board with Alda Arthur as vice president and Dale Steele as secretary treasurer. One year terms awarded to Alda Arthur Dale Steele and George Stephens. two year terms to Paul Hornburg and Dorman Hanks. Bond sale planned for about 1.65 million. Board to seek more doctors and bonds with attorney approval.

Band Parents Meeting Friday Night

Band Parents invite all Jr. High and High School parents to an organizational meeting Friday August 9 at 8:00 p.m. at the band hall to discuss fundraising and band projects for the coming year. A get acquainted party follows. please bring cakes pies and other goodies. Drinks provided by the group. All band students are invited.

Dudley Named Board Chairman of MH-MR

James H. Dudley was elected chairman of the Board of Trustees for the Central Texas Mental Health and Mental Retardation Center in Brownwood at the last board meeting. Brown County Judge James Bunnell was elected vice chairman and Mrs. Nell Cunningham was re elected secretary. Dudley also serves on the Sudderth Woodley Dudley Law Firm board and sits on the boards of Comanche National Bank and the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association.

Comanche's Agri-Business Association will host an informative session on the Emergency Loan for farmers and ranchers during its monthly meeting Thursday morning.
