Fragmentary ad notes a new sale of floor wax and bug killer with a one low price, marketed for roaches ants and other pests. Mentions Perry's wholesale grocery and Perry's Ad in August. Includes disjointed references to summer tees and ready-made goods.
Plans are completed for the Comanche County Electric Cooperative annual meeting at Lake Eanes on August 2. Members from Comanche Eastland Brown Mills Callahan Stephens and Shackelford Counties will hear by laws revision officer reports director elections and participation plans. An entertainment and exhibits program includes Bozo the Great and other acts with a talent contest open to members and families.
One hundred twelve Comanche County voters filed absentee ballot applications for the August 23 Democratic Primary runoff. Five contests are on the ballot including Supreme Court Place 1, Sheriff, District Clerk, Commissioner No. 1, and Justice of the Peace No. 1. Absentee voting continues through Tuesday, August 19.
Navy electrician Fireman First Class Tom Graham, aboard the mine sweeper Strive, has been home on furlough and will soon depart for overseas duty. The returning sailor is listed with the Mine Sweeper Strive and will resume duties after furlough.
Indian Creek Methodist Church announces a revival beginning Friday August 15 with nightly services at 8 30 p m through Sunday August 24. Morning service starts Monday August 18 at 10 a m through Friday the 22nd led by Rev Bill Gunkel. Everyone is invited.
A revival at Victory Baptist Church Comanche starts Sunday August 10 and runs through August 24 with daily 9:00 am and 6:00 pm services. Rev M T Gilliam General Field Missionary of the Southern Baptist Convention Tucson arrives to preach. Rev Frank Gilliam assists and leads singing. Outdoor meetings planned with a comfortable worship space.
Comanche public schools plan a September 8 start for the 1952-53 year with about 1,000 students enrolled. First grade students will register and remain only part of day. entrance requires birth certificate for newcomers and proof of immunizations. The district schedules a budget hearing on August 20 and reports extensive renovations, new staff, and added buses for the district’s reopening.
Farm Bureau will hold its annual picnic at Lake Fanes on August 12 starting 7 15 p m. It is a basket picnic with Farm Bureau supplying coffee and tea. Directors for the coming year will be elected. Sidney Hill Billy Band provides music and there will be brief speaking.
Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Edwards, formerly of Comanche, have recently relocated from Midland to Brownwood, settling in the new community.
Curt Lemons pitched a no-hit no-run 3-0 victory over Brownwood Floral to claim the District 11 Amateur Softball crown. Comanche and Floral advance to the State USA tournament in Brownwood August 13 to 16, as Lemons fanned 47 in the run of three wins.
Gustine and Dallas square off at Gustine ball park Saturday night August 9 with a 7 30 p m doubleheader. Dallas Briggs Weaver Machinery team, famed in that city, is expected to provide two competitive games for a strong local crowd.
The State Softball Tournament starts Wednesday August 13 at Daniel Baker Park in Brownwood and runs through August 16. Comanche All-Stars, District 11 champions, begin at 7 45 p m with Brownwood Floral at 6 45 and Lake Jackson defending champions at 9 00. Tickets are $2 for the full tournament and can be bought at the Chief or from John Carpenter. The event is a double elimination format with 20 plus top teams expected.
The Comanche Chamber of Commerce board approves $25 premiums for the first bale of cotton and the first ton of peanuts ginned or marketed in Comanche County. Growers must have produced the crop in the county. Local ginners and peanut buyers should notify the chamber when the first bale is ginned and the first ton marketed to receive the awards.
The Kirkland brothers Troy and Delbert return to Comanche from West Virginia and have purchased the former Wallace Hammack Grocery. They will spend two to three weeks renovating and stocking the store and plan to open late August or early September.
The First Baptist Church of Comanche opened its summer revival on August 3 and runs through August 17. Rev. Clyde Childers of Riverside Park Baptist Church San Antonio delivered the first sermon August 4 as crowds praised morning and evening services. Wallace Cobb organized the music program. Next Wednesday after services Rev Childers will show slides on Home Mission work in Cuba.
By Wayde Frey county agent three Comanche County FFA members received the Lone Star Farm Degree at the State FFA Convention in Dallas July 16 to 18. Dwain Adcock of Gustine Elton McDonald and John Beaty of Comanche earned degrees alongside 52 others in Area IV.
