News from Comanche County reports uranium testing becoming popular among farmers with portable instruments. New dirt houses open or planned at several sites near Newburg, Indian Creek, and Comanche, offering a sitters service with claims of health benefits.
Schools at Wil open on Monday Sep. 5 for the 1855 86 term per state superintendent Ray Pruitt. Sidney faculty includes Miss Hall Mrs McEntire and Mr Green with grades 4 6 and English Agriculture Science instructors listed. A fall term day is planned with Bermuda sod work and a man to light the new home at Seine Junction Springs. Albert Whittle makes a brief visit.
The South Copperas Baptist revival opens Sunday August 12 and runs through August 21. Semele ThaATAR sent Jenardre Baptist Minister, who first pastorated at South Copperas church about thirty years ago, will be the guest evangelist. Reverend William Lehr invites all to worship and seek God's blessings.
Herman Moore long time Comanche High School faculty member has resigned to become Gustine elementary school principal and head basketball coach. He led Comanche Indians basketball for three years and served as assistant football and rack coach for five seasons. The Moores will remain in Comanche. Gustine schools open August 29.
The annual Comanche County Senior Citizens picnic is set for Monday August 15 at Lake Eanes Park Comanche with Ralph Yarborough Austin attorney and gubernatorial candidate as principal speaker Other speakers include Rev J D Smoot Rev Paul Lightfoot Rep W R Chambers Ralph Yarborough Ben Wilson J W Shannon and O C Waters Master of Ceremonies is O C Waters Musical entertainment by Johnnie Robinson and the Jubilettes Free Comanche stew will be served at noon attendees are urged to bring desserts salads and covered dishes.
The Hillbilly Kids from Sidney representing the Sidney FFA Chapter will appear as special guests on Abilene television Monday night August 22. Delbert Reid and Max Pyburn will perform Western music on the program.
J. D. Walker, former head of the Service Drug electrical repair dept, returns to Comanche to lead the Frigidaire Maytag Philco Agency shop. The Walker family moves from San Angelo to Petsick Addition with two children, Jimmy and Grenda, and joins the Baptist church. Walker, a noted radio TV and refrigerator tech, will resume duties after a short leave and will assist local residents with electrical problems.
Dublin businessman Joe Henderson buys the Comanche Piggly Wiggly at 217 N Houston from Weaver T Aishman and will assume control August 15. Travis Rasberry named store manager. the Rasberry family plans to move to Comanche soon. Store to close 3 4 weeks for re opening preparations.
The Comanche County Quartet Singing Convention will be held Friday night August 12 at Gartmans View. R E B Nance president and Darlene Cathey secretary invite all to attend.
The Dudley brothers Gail Eltas and Tom run a 19000 acre Comanche County ranch with 1300 head of registered Hereford cattle using mechanized methods. The Texaco Star notes horses are hauled by pickup trailers for ranch work while petroleum products support operations. The family traces three generations from James Hudson Dudley who moved from Georgia to Arkansas then to Comanche County Texas in 1885 and built a ranching empire.
Mr and Mrs Paul Fisher of Wilcox Arizona spent two weeks with relatives in Comanche. They attended the Fisher reunion during their stay, before returning home Wednesday.
The sixteenth annual meeting and barbecue of the Comanche County Livestock Association will be at Lake Fanes Park Comanche on Friday August 12. The business session starts 6 30 PM followed by dinner and program at 7 30 PM chaired by Pat Cagle and Gail Dudley.
