Baptist Revival Opens Next Week at Beattie Church

Beattie Baptist Church will begin a revival meeting next Friday night August 12 and continue through August 21. Evangelist Robert Elkins will preach and Floyd Fisher will lead song services with two daily sessions at 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. Rev. David Hollingsworth invites all to attend.

Fire destroys home of Travis family and injuries reported

The blaze began shortly after last Friday and destroyed the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lester N. Travis. Neighbors heard an explosion as flames rushed through the Berkebach residence. The property carried $4,000 insurance. residents Muse Mamie Franklin and Mrs. Elmer Webb were among those affected.

Comanche Softball Hosts Stephenville All Stars Next Wednesday

The Comanche softball team will play its first home game of the season next Wednesday at 8 oclock against the Stephenville All Stars. The locals, formed last week for district play in Brownwood, have split results with Stephenville, losing 2-1 in Brownwood and winning 4-1 at Stephenville. Admission is 10 cents to help cover lights and balls.

Huett Furniture Owner Hurt In Dallas Car Wreck

W. H. Huett a longtime local furniture dealer and father of C. L. Huett was injured in a car crash near Dallas at about 9 30 Wednesday night. Early reports say he suffered five broken ribs and severe cuts while his son and daughter in law were en route to Dallas to visit him at St Pauls Hospital.

Hubbard squash prize grows to giant size in Comanche

Mrs. Luther McAliley of 700 S. Houston reports Hubbard squashes this year reach 35 pounds and 25 inches. Seed brought from California by Mrs. Lula Gandy at 607 S. Houston was planted in April. The couple also harvest carrots, beets, cucumbers, peas, tomatoes, beans, onions, potatoes and okra in their 40 by 50 garden.

Comanche and Cross Plains figures announce the purchase of the Big D Drilling Company from John Hilbert Huett and the Parker estate. Ralph Carnes remains in charge with headquarters at Cross Plains while continuing his Dodge Plymouth dealership duties. Dr E F Blackwood plans to move to Oklahoma City next month. Comanche County Electric Co-Operative held its Annual Meeting and Electric Fair at Lake Lanes Park with an estimated 3,300 attendees over two days. Highlights included entertainment by Jesse the clown and Everett Duncan, cake baking and amateur contests, and prize drawings. Rites Held Here For Wreck Victim Jane Holden

Funeral services were held for 11 year old Jane Ruth Holden daughter of Mr and Mrs Jimmy Holden of Amarillo former Comanche residents. She died when a tire blew and the car overturned south of Ashfork Arizona near Prescott. The mother and younger brother Kenneth were injured others survived. The Holdens were en route from Amarillo to California at the time of the accident.

Gore Brothers Reopen Feed Mill Near Fort Worth
