The De Leon Peach and Melon Festival launches Tuesday August 6 with a queen candidate tea hosted by the De Leon Study Club. Fourteen candidates are interviewed, with a later parade and coronation on August 7, and a separate Little Miss De Leon contest on August 6. Wanda Jackson will perform Thursday night.

Voters in Comanche Precincts one two and three will decide on creating a Comanche County Hospital District with a tax levy not to exceed 75 cents per 100 dollars and assumption of county hospital bonds. If approved the district will hire more doctors and build an open staff hospital with 40 to 50 beds.

Comanche County sees a strong 1974 income rise for land and royalty holders as crude oil and natural gas values jump.
