Peach and Melon Festival Opens Tuesday in De Leon

The De Leon Peach and Melon Festival launches Tuesday August 6 with a queen candidate tea hosted by the De Leon Study Club. Fourteen candidates are interviewed, with a later parade and coronation on August 7, and a separate Little Miss De Leon contest on August 6. Wanda Jackson will perform Thursday night.

Hospital District Proposal On Ballot In Comanche County

Voters in Comanche Precincts one two and three will decide on creating a Comanche County Hospital District with a tax levy not to exceed 75 cents per 100 dollars and assumption of county hospital bonds. If approved the district will hire more doctors and build an open staff hospital with 40 to 50 beds.

Gospel Meeting Planned by Sidney Church of Christ

Sidney Church of Christ announces a Gospel meeting from Sunday August 4 to Sunday August 11. Dale Scott of Stephenville former Pearl Street Church of Christ minister will be guest minister. Raymond Richardson of Borger will direct song services. Evening services start at 8 00 except Sunday worship hours as usual.

Higher Income For County Land And Royalty Owners

Comanche County sees a strong 1974 income rise for land and royalty holders as crude oil and natural gas values jump. The Texas Mid-Continent study cites 1974 county production valued at $206,196 with 23,963 barrels of oil worth $92,018 and 601 million cubic feet of gas at $114,178, while statewide oil prices rise about 74 percent from 1973.

Brinson Resigns After Twenty-Eight Years as County Superintendent

Brinson resigns from Comanche County post after twenty eight years as superintendent and three years as assistant county superintendent under J C Helm Jr. His career spans Sipe Springs, Sidney Schools, Army Air Corps service, and leadership in numerous civic and educational organizations. He holds degrees from Daniel Baker College and Texas Christian University and is active in church and fraternal groups.

Electric Co Op Annual Meeting Friday August 2

The Comanche County Electric Cooperative Association will hold its regular annual meeting Friday night at 8 p.m. to review 1973 operations and elect three directors for three year terms. Directors up for election include Joe Morgan W W McInnis G I Dawkins and B J Taylor. Patronage capital stood at 139000 with a strong safety record. Registration gifts refreshments entertainment and door prizes planned with De Leon FFA Talent Team.

Special Gospel Music At Methodist Church Sunday Night

A gospel program will be presented Sunday night August 4 at 7 p.m. by Coraline Polley a Mount Calm native and renowned concert singer. Polley studied at Hill Junior College Baylor University and Columbia University and once coached for the Metropolitan Opera in New York after marrying Maestro Cesare Sodero.
