Comanche Public Schools announce registration schedules for grades 1 to 12 ahead of the fall term. New district entrants should contact C. E. Irby during August 11–15. High school newcomers may consult Lee Presswood for counseling. Birth certificates and smallpox vaccination proof required for first graders and new enrollees.
Dr. William C. House of College Station becomes Full Professor and Coordinator of the Quantitative Management Science Dept at the University of Arkansas effective Sept 1. He is the son of Clyde and the late Mrs. House and will move with his family to 1533 Rollings Hill Drive Fayetteville Arkansas this week.
Agriculture Commissioner J C White urged peanut farmers in Comanche Eastland and Erath counties to inspect fields weekly for corn stalk borer. About 9 percent show infestation with buildup slightly higher than last year. Apply control measures at the proper time for maximum effect.
Unofficial results show Comanche County voters approving amendments 1 9 45 7 and 5 while rejecting 2 6 9. Totals include absentee and box votes across multiple measures with No 5 Welfare Fund receiving the highest support and statewide results hinting at trouble for a massive Texas Water Plan.
The Rev Edward J Haffner of Brownwood has been appointed the Vicar of St Matthew's Episcopal Church in Co manche to serve through May 1970 He previously led the church from 1957 to 1969 while also pastoring St John's in Brownwood. He is a Carroll College graduate and seminary trained at the Seminary of the Southwest He studied at the University of Texas and worked as a public accountant before ordination He has held pastorates in Slane Marsh and Harlingen and recently served as chaplain of the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen He is State Chaplain of the VFW since 1964 and remains a working priest with income from other sources He is also a Certified Master Broker for Real Estate and owns Brownwood rental properties He is married with two children Linda 20 and Eddie John 17.
Ft Worth amateurs T A Avarello and Marvin Kelly won the first annual PAR Country Club partnership event with 130 total over two days August 2. They earned matched irons and wolf shoes for their 62 best round, beating course record set by Caravag Hl James Perkins Edward Brooks and Col Keith Lane.
The Jaycees say no Little League Tournament will be held this year due to insufficient teams.
