Annual REAM Meeting Set Here For Friday Night

Comanche County Electric Cooperative Association will hold its 31st annual meeting at Indian Memorial Stadium on Friday August 1 with 7:00 pm registration and refreshments and music by the Jake Brown Quartet. Directors for District No 4 are Mills, Brown County, and Harold Gist. District No 2 candidate is Fred T. Clark. Carol Byrd Wins $500 Farm Bureau Scholarship

Carol Ann Byrd of Comanche County and Route 2 is named the Texas Farm Bureau $500 college scholar recipient by Texas 4H officials. A May CHS graduate and 10 year 4H veteran, she excelled in foods clothing dairy beef and leadership. She plans to study biological science at Tarleton State College.

Light Vote Expected In County Tuesday

A light vote is expected Tuesday in Comanche County as residents decide on nine proposed amendments to the State Constitution. Six voting boxes open 8 am to 7 pm at locations including Home Economics Building Comanche High School campus and De Leon City Hall.

Hill Buys Local Butane Gas Co to Lead Family Enterprise

Dr. W. A. Bill Hill purchases Butane Gas Co from Mr. and Mrs. Welch Lawless and takes over office at 206 North Austin. He and wife Minnie Waterer Hill reside on Rt. 3 with three sons. Hill, a 1947 CHS and 1958 Texas A&M graduate, leaves veterinary practice to devote full time to the butane and gasoline business and livestock ventures.

Lawless Sells Butane-Fina Businesses to Doctor Hill

After 23 years Lawless sells the Butane Gas Co to Dr W A Rich Hill who moves back to Comanche with family from Houston. Lawless thanks customers and notes Hill will handle butane and gasoline needs as he takes it easy. Bob Carpenter of The Comanche Chief underwent emergency surgery Monday July 28 and is recovering in hospital.

Berna Garms Receives Bronze Star for Vietnam Service

Specialist 4 Berna W. Garms of the 9th Infantry Division earned the Bronze Star for his actions in Vietnam from February to June 1969. He was wounded in April and also holds the Purple Heart. His wife Terrie and baby Angelia reside in Comanche, Texas, and his unit is preparing for reassignment from Vietnam.

Voters Face Nine Changes In State Constitution

Texas voters head to polls on August 5 to decide nine proposed constitutional amendments. The list covers a water bonds plan, pay raises for leaders, nonprofit water utilities tax exemptions, higher public aid spending, bond limits, expanded survivor aid, college loan funding, and annual legislative sessions.

Two Receive Promotion At State National Bank

State National Bank promoted Sybil Stewart from Assistant Cashier to Assistant Vice-President and Jan Murphree from Bookkeeper to Assistant Cashier at a July 22 Board meeting.
