The Fisher Strickland and Nelson families of Comanche county held their fifth annual reunion at the reunion grounds near Beattie on Copperas Creek. About 300 people attended over two days with a beef barbecue and basket lunches. Officers were reelected with Oscar Fisher president and L R Williams secretary treasurer. Next year’s meet planned for early August. Also notes of marriages births and visiting relatives from Abilene Lubbock Fort Worth and other Texas towns. A separate Wilhelm family reunion at Lake Eanes drew 150 attendees with a watermelon slicing campfire supper and sunlit swimming.
Work on Highway No 81 between Comanche and De Leon resumed Tuesday as a power shovel moved from the Leon River Bridge to a pit on De Leon road. Crews will connect near W P Robertson and Prater homes then extend toward War Dyke to create an all weather road with remaining slick spots likely. County Foreman Jno Hart confirms progress and improved conditions once completed.
A family gathering at Lake Eanes marked by Victrola music and fellowship followed a morning service for Rev. J. B. Beaty a pioneer Methodist pastor with over four decades in the ministry. Attendees from Comanche county and beyond joined relatives including connections from Fort Worth Abilene Marlow and El Paso.

Comanche 4-H Club members won fourth place in terracing and sixth place in poultry judging at the state Short Course. Attendees from area clubs included Vivi Graham Dus ter Seth More J C LaGrone Jr Oleta Fields Ruby Mae Fields Clifton Greenlee and others from Hasse Newburg Lamkin and surrounding communities.
The Annual Oldo Settlers Reunion will be held at Hasse next Thursday August 18 officers announce. Program includes sing song invocation welcome address response round table discussions talks by old settlers address by George E. Smith lunch business meeting and music by Proctor String Band.
The film Trader Horn with Harry Carey Edwina Booth and Duncan Renaldo comes to the Ritz Theatre August 16 17 18. Filmed in Africa it is billed as an extraordinary all talking jungle drama with vivid safari thrills and a romance.
Fort Worth All-Stars travel to Gustine Sunday at 2 p.m. for a key baseball clash expected to draw a large crowd from Comanche and nearby areas. The event is promoted by R. T. Wallace as committee chairman.
Representative Homer DeWolfe introduces House Bill 39 to repeal the anti peddler tax for agricultural products. Senator Carl Hardin and Rep E T Wyatt back the move to end multi county occupation taxes that burden farmers selling to truckers, with governor and special session action pursued.
