T Dixon aged 68 concluded a long service in the Uncle Sam mail system. He served Route 2 at Proctor Comanche County since 1910 and accumulated about 143 600 miles in uniform. One minor accident when the cab uncoupled with the front axle ended the horse drawn era. Dixon now runs his route by automobile.
Two fires destroyed homes in Comanche within hours of each other. The J. E. Miller residence, a seven room two story frame house in West Comanche, burned completely after 10 a.m. Sat, with the board and contents a total loss. A vacant cottage owned by Gabe Hopkins burned at 4 a.m. Sunday, roof nearly collapsed when found. No injuries reported.

Mr and Mrs W P Graham returned home Friday after a trip visiting Arkansas and Mount Vernon.
Williamson County residents spent Friday with relatives and stocked a pantry with over 2000 cans of vegetables fruit and meat. They noted features include chicken tamales and twenty one cans of turtle. Mrs Julian Johnson and Mrs Tom Glasgow have already canned ample vegetables and fruit to last until next spring.
Burglaries struck Lamkin and three local businesses Wednesday night, with losses over 2000 dollars. The Truett and Hayes Mercantile Co and Neel Brothers’ hardware store were robbed, a Dr Eargle Drive Store front door broken, and Dope drugs reportedly taken. An arrest was made of a youth near Carlton. two cars seen near midnight. Lamkin Post Office safe was blown, with sixty eight dollars stolen, discovered Monday morning.
About five thousand from Comanche County attended Brownwood Highway No. 10 celebration last Tuesday. A two mile parade, led by Comanche Indians and Fort Worth bands, drew thousands as 200 autos and many floats moved through Brownwood to a grounds feast of barbecue and a day of speeches and entertainment.
Abilene judge W. R. Ely, chairman of the State Highway Commission, traveled to Comanche to discuss a possible highway from Comanche to Rising Star. He urged local effort to secure designation of the route as part of Highway No. 36 before it becomes harder to obtain new designations. Ely was joined by his wife and J. Willis Cox of Abilene.
Ninety children got the second dose of diphtheria toxoid at the high school Thursday morning. Fifteen children were vaccinated against smallpox at the Comanche county health clinic meeting led by County Health Officer J. O Lane and State Nurse Miss Jean Dunnett of Stephenville.
Work began Thursday July 23 on a 30 by 80 foot sheet iron warehouse with cement foundation. Foreman W M Ziegler says the building will cost about $1000 and be ready by August 8. A similar structure was finished at DeLeon with others planned in Dublin and Goldthwaite. Stephenville project to start after Comanche is finished.
Comanche City Schools will open September 8, per L. F. Elkins president of the Board of Trustees. The announcement clarifies start date for the upcoming school year.
The Brownwood Chamber of Commerce signals a major highway development milestone with a public gathering of about ten thousand attendees. H Burks, secretary, pledges local business support and service to residents as part of Brownwood’s development efforts.
Comanche reports show threshing nearly complete with a record grain surplus and heavy outbound shipping to Shreveport Fort Worth and Brownwood. Wheat oats and straw fetch high prices as 90 percent of the marketable grain has already sold and large quantities remain unpriced for feed.
Concrete is being poured on the nine mile stretch of Highway No 10 from Birdville Junction to Keller to provide a hard surfaced road from the city to Denton. The northern end of the highway will be completed. M C Welborn, highway engineer, expects completion by October 15 at a cost of 190000 dollars.
G. B. Whittle formerly of De Leon opened a bowling alley in Comanche on Monday at the northwest corner of the square a door west of Wetzel’s Barber Shop.
