The REA board and staff prepare for the display while local merchants advertise summer savings on appliances, clothing, and hardware with clearance offers and seasonal specials.

Harmon Named Assistant Coach At Stephenville High

Roy Harmon, longtime Stephenville High School coach in basketball and grid, resigns to join Comanche staff as assistant football mentor and science teacher. Four-man CHS coaching lineup completed. Harmon joins Michael Murphy and Kenneth Scott among others. All four Comanche coaches head to Texas Coaching School in San Antonio.

Doan Accepts Ministry Here At Central Christian Church

Bob Doan, pursuing a Doctor of Divinity at Brite College of The Bible, Texas Christian University, accepts the pastorate at Central Christian Church in Comanche. He and his wife Bobbye Jean Green Doan, with six month old Andrew, move here after Navy service in World War II and Korea. Joe H. Tupin invites members to welcome the Doan family to services. Dean praises the opportunity to serve and asks to be called if he can help.

Big Top Show Set for Comanche County Electric Meet

Plans are complete for the Seventeenth Annual Meeting of the Comanche County Electric Cooperative at Lake Eanes Park Comanche August 1 and 2 with a free show rides contests and a Westinghouse TV prize. Directors to be elected from Districts 1 and 3 and the cooperative serves about 5100 farms across seven counties. manager W J Bill Parks urges full member attendance for a blend of entertainment and business.

Six New Teachers Among 45 Faculty Members of Comanche For 1955-56

Comanche schools announce a total of 45 teachers for 1955-56, with six new hires as replacements due to declining enrollment. New staff include M. O. Murphy athletic director and Kenneth Scott assistant coach, plus Earl Harmon science and assistant coach, Mrs. M. O. Murphy homemaking, Mary Beaty 6th grade, and Ena Patillo 5th grade.

Sharon Durham Suffers Injury In Car Wreck

Sharon Durham 11 daughter of Mr and Mrs Walter Durham Jr Comanche sustained a broken jaw and facial injuries when her mother’s car crashed into an oak tree in the Floyd Prather driveway. After initial treatment local hospital she was sent to Fort Worth for oral surgery care at St Josephs Hospital. Mrs Durham was uninjured and the car suffered heavy damage.

Five Thousand At Uranium Ranch Sunday

An estimated crowd of 5000 visited Jesse Reese's Uranium Dirt House with 1600 cars as people sought relief from aches and pains. Attendance peaked Friday July 22 with 400 visitors paying $2 to sit in the sand for an hour and a half. Visitors came from 16 states, Texas towns prominent, and Reese expanded from 3 to 54 seats then to a 102 seat amphitheatre with a cafe. Reese keeps a 7 pm closing time but guests stay late, while nearby Comanche gains motels to serve travelers seeking treatment.

Comanche Uranium Farm gains national press coverage

The Comanche Uranium Farm story spread across Ft Worth and Texas papers and then to nearly every U.S. newspaper. Newsweek picked it up in its July 25 issue with Fred Hall shoveling dirt on 12 sitters in the original dirt house. The Newburg Uranium feature followed, appearing in Stars and Stripes and clipping from as far as Japan and Germany reached Comanche.

Revival Opens Friday Night at Victory Baptist Church

A revival meeting starts Friday night July 29 at Victory Baptist Church and runs through August 7. Bro. Ellis Hilliard will be the speaker, a well known figure in Comanche County. Services begin at 10 a.m. daily and 8 p.m. evenings.

High Mexican Officials Buy 52 Registered Hereford Cattle

Six Mexican officials visited Comanche County to purchase 52 registered Herefords from the Dudley Brothers Ranch, including 30 head and two bulls destined for a Chihuahua ranch. Attendees included Jesus M. Ramon and Teofilo Bertinda, with Governor Cepeda among the buyers.

Voters Approve Bond And Tax Measures In District

Voters in the Comanche School District approved the bond and school tax measures in a special election on Tuesday August 26 by a 53 to 2 vote. The governor traveled to a ranch in Coahuila run by his son. Eltas Dudley left with bulls for El Paso port of entry delivering them to buyers. All bulls passed the government blood test in El Paso. The females will go to the port of El Paso and then to a ranch in Torreon Mexico.
