A House For Henry Ripley Builds at 84 in Comanche County

Henry Ripley, 84, widower and longtime Comanche resident, has been building a 24 by 36 foot house near his East Highland home using mostly self labor since retirement after 1970. He moved to Comanche in 1904 with his large family and never married, relying on hard work, faith, and simple living as he progresses at his own pace.

Passing Lane Plan For Highway 36 Presented

Mayor Clarence Schwartz says at the next City Council meeting a Texas State Highway Department proposal will reconstruct and add a truck passing lane on Highway 36 Northwest from U S 67 to the city limits. The five mile project includes a climbing lane and a turning lane for northbound drivers, with Comanche County already approving its share.

Comanche County Tops Texas Peanut Production in 1973

Agriculture Commissioner John C. White announced Comanche County led Texas with 85,300,000 pounds of peanuts in 1973, helping Texas rank second nationwide. Other top counties were Eastland Frio Atascosa and Erath. Complete 1973 field crops statistics are available from the Texas Department of Agriculture in Austin.

Great Air Show Planned At Comanche August Air Show

The Comanche Air Show set for August 17 at Comanche City-County Airport will feature fly-in guests at daybreak. Col Lefty Gardner and Col Joe Henderson will perform WW II aircraft dogfights. Cathy Tarkington, Fort Worth native and TCU graduate, will debut with a Pitts Special. Free admission funded by sponsors and local groups.
