A big crowd is expected in Comanche Monday for the monthly Trades Day. Merchants offer special bargains and farmers bring hogs cows and other live stock for sale and trade.

Softball League Set to Open Here Tuesday

The Comanche Softball League will open its season next Tuesday at six o'clock on grounds near the House Service Station. Four teams are sponsored by Dudley Brothers, Fagan Chevrolet Company, Higginbotham Bros. & Co., and J. C. Biges Auto Parts. Players who have not signed up should contact Joe Marshall, A. P. Fruit and truck growers will meet in the District Court room here Saturday afternoon at 2:30 oclock to discuss market prospects and check crop forecasts. Organizers say there are matters growers should be advised on and efforts are underway to prepare information for the meeting.

Dublin to Build Fifteen Room Hospital

Dr. W. H. Guy plans a one story hospital in Dublin with a future second story, flag stone exterior, and a 20 foot setback on Patriot street. Construction began April 15 with 15 rooms including two consultation rooms a large waiting area twelve patient rooms an operating room and kitchen to meet the town's growing medical needs.

Fagan Takes Charge at Brightman Service Station in Comanche

Comanche veteran Tom Fagan will assume charge of the Brightman Service Station at the northwest corner of the square Saturday morning. He has long operated in the area with the Fagan Chevrolet Company and previously ran a service station here. The Brightman station, opened in 1928 by Brightman and Son, remains one of two such squareside stations.

Elm Grove youth dies in freak hunting accident

Raymond Moore, 16, son of Mr and Mrs Avery Moore of Elm Grove, died late Thursday after an accidental discharge of a 22 rifle. The weapon rested against a tree while he and a companion hunted a squirrel, a dog bumped the gun, and the bullet struck his chest.

Marie Marshall Wins Regional Speech Honors

Marie Marshall daughter of Mr and Mrs Joe Marshall of Comanche won the regional championship in Junior Girls Declamation at Abilene. A representative from Abilene placed second and San Angelo won third. Marie had prior county and district titles to qualify. Comanche Lions Club heard her at Ridgeway luncheon. Debaters from Comanche High School also won regionals with Ted Durham and Harold Hoffman losing in finals to Abilene. Brady High School won the district track meet led by Charles Marshall finishing fourth in the 440 yard run.

Burks Transfer Safe Robbed of $20 During Sunday Night Raid

A burglar pried the safe lock at Burks Transfer and Storage Company's warehouse and stole about $20.00, according to A. P. Burks. Officers are investigating with several squads on the case.

J C Gaddy will oversee the new Conoco Service Station on South Main Street slated to open Saturday. The modern stucco rock veneer building sits on the Vasco Lee lot on Highway 10. Gaddy has managed Brightman Station for five to six years and has 12 years in the service station business, starting in 1923 in Como manche as a salesman.

The grand jury returned twenty eight true bills including twenty five felonies and three misdemeanors. Indictments cover extortion bigamy drunken driving theft and burglary with several cases tied to the Anderson extortion note. A.S. A four room frame cottage for Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hafford on Duncan Avenue is nearly finished. The lot, bought from Mrs. Hafford’s mother Mrs. Dexter Walling, sits between her remodeled Walling home and the Cunningham house built by Mr. and Mrs. Tot Cunningham about four months ago.

Lamkin Girl Wins First in Regional Writers' Contest

Miss Neville Hamilton of Lamkin won first place in the Ready Writers' Contest at the Abilene regional meet, bringing honor to herself and Lamkin school. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hamilton and will attend the State Meet in Austin with her brother Deane Hamilton, Western Union in the Capitol Building.
