Civil cases disposed of here in district court

More than seventy civil cases were on file at opening of district court Monday with nineteen disposed of by Wednesday noon. The list includes bank suits, partition cases, several divorces granted, injunctions dismissed, and several judgments by default for plaintiffs. Grand and riding bailiffs were named as court officers.

Under Miss Oveta Barnhart the Comanche High School home economics class staged a style show at the New Majestic Theatre Saturday night. Prizes for best evening dress went to Mary Louise Ray born and best street dress to Roy Esmond Wallace. Three external judges assisted the faculty.

W C Cauley and L C Cleve land, with 18 members of the Comanche degree team, represented the local W O W Lodge at Abilene state convention. L C Findley was elected national delegate for the fifteenth consecutive time and will attend the National Convention in San Francisco on June 22.

Governor vows summer fight to repeal horse race betting law

Governor James V. Allred says he is prepared for an all summer fight to repeal the horse race betting law if the Senate fails to vote during the current session. He warns that end of the session may reflect a major filibuster and no excuse for not voting the repeal bill. The House approved the measure by a large majority, while Senate floor action has stalled.

Auten Re-elected Principal at Sabano School

M. L. Auten has been re elected principal of the Sabano School. Miss Ruth Howell, assistant teacher for the past four years, was not an applicant for re election. The school closed after a successful term last Friday.

Choice Baking Co. opens in Comanche on South Side Square

The Choice Baking Company opens Tuesday on the South side of the square in the former Gore's Grocery building. Earl Oden, formerly of Dallas, manages with Spurgeon Brazil assisting. Oden brings eight years of Dallas bakery experience and has recently sold an interest in a Dallas bakery to start this business. The firm plans to specialize in cookies with modern equipment installed.

A new ice cream parlor will open on the north side of the square soon. Miss Velda Franks, a former operator of a cafe, will run the business in the building that previously housed the City Bakery.

Cauley couple buy Moore house move to new lot

Mr and Mrs Harry Mark Cauley purchased the Henry E Moore residence and plan to move it to a lot recently bought from C M Albin located north of the lot where Doc McNutt is building a new residence. They intend to settle in and make a fine home.

May 15 Final Day For Farmers To Sign Work Sheets

County Agent N. E. Scudder announces May 15 as the final date to file Soil Conservation Work Sheets in the County Office. About eight to nine hundred farmers have signed 1937 Work Sheets so far. Next week farm meetings are set in Sipe Springs, De Leon, Gustine with office staff and committeemen to help sign sheets. after that date sheets must be signed in Comanche.

Tent Meeting Begins Here Friday Night

The McAdams Evanelistic party led by H. M. McAdams and Sylvia Wood starts a revival in Comanche Friday at 7 45 pm. McAdams family hail from Huntsville Texas and Wood from Desloge Missouri. They invite all churches to join in the gospel tent campaigns with old time gospel as their theme. No Sunday morning services. they will visit other churches then. The tent sits near the Post Office beside the old M E church.

Career Ends W. T. House Dies at Stephenville Hospital

W. T. House former County Judge and County Treasurer died in a Stephenville hospital after days of treatment. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the local Baptist Church. He was 66, born February 11 1871 in Washburn Arkansas and had lived in Comanche County 46 years. Interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Comanche County Baptists set May 2 as Eye Day to supply Buckner Orphans Home with eggs instead of money. Churches will crate and mail eggs to Buckner in Dallas, then Johnson Trucks will transport them free to Dallas.

Local committee raises funds for Comanche High lighting

A community committee raised 750 dollars toward lighting the Comanche High School football field. Members Sammy Waisman Walter Durham Roy Brannon and Dr. E R Ammons organized the drive and urged more contributions to reach a 1000 dollar goal, with the board and athletic department covering the remainder of the two thousand dollar cost.
