The Comanche Baptist Church organized on February 21, 1874 with sixteen members including El der Jonathan Milner its first pastor and A L Hamilton later a deacon. Membership doubled in six years and Lena Kirk Daniels became the first missionary in 1885. A later revival by Dr Keifer doubled the church again. local war board sent eight men to Camp Travis. Trustees were re-elected with votes for J H McMillan, W T House, George Sullivan, I A Herring, and O R Houghton.

Plainview Loot Recovered At Priddy Theft Suspects Named
Wire fencing and nails stolen from a Plainview lumber yard were found in Priddy with a merchant who showed a bill of sale. Two men Johnnie Woods and Jim Tullos were arrested in related county actions and charged with theft. Loot valued at about 275 dollars will be returned to the Plainview firm.

Deep Oil Test Planned at Logan’s Gap West of Comanche
A deep oil test was due to begin late this week in Logan’s Gap eight miles west of Comanche. The Jim Griffin farm on the Old Brownwood Highway was selected for the test, with 2000 acres blocked by Griffin and Compton of Jacksboro and Fort Worth. Compton was moving a rotary drill to the Griffin site early this week.

Five men and boys pleaded guilty in District Court on Tuesday, receiving penitentiary terms or jail time. Trial Set For Murder Case In District Court
A special 60 man jury was called for Tuesday May 3 in District Court before Judge R B Cross in the murder case of W G Chancellor. District Attorney Harry D Chancellor is charged with the killing of his brother in law R L Daniel who was shot in Comanche in front of a residence once occupied by the Chancellor family. Daniel's wife was inside the house during the shooting amid reported family trouble.
