A birthday dinner at daughter Mrs J C Wilkerson’s home marked the celebration as all six Brightman children attended including Oswell and Miss Hattie from Comanche. Out of town guests included Mr and Mrs James A Schiller of Houston and the Brightman family of Abilene. Brightman, born in St Marys Refugio County, grew up on the Blackjack Coast and remains famed for outdoor life, hunting, fishing, and marksmanship. He now runs a grain and feed business after a diverse career as farmer gin operator meat market dry goods store and cotton buyer. He helped organize Comanche County Abstract Co before sale to the Robertsons. He is Past Master of the Comanche Masonic Lodge and active in the Methodist Church and draft board service in WWI. He remains engaged in local and national affairs and followed the war’s progress.
A sermon emphasizes reasoning with God based on Isaiah 1 18 and other biblical passages. It urges humility introspection and applying divine reasoning to life and legacy. The talk uses imagery of parks and ships to label reasoning as fruitful and warns against taking God’s name in vain.

Comanche residents enjoyed a weekend trip to Fort Worth to attend the Ice Capades at Will Rogers Coliseum. The party included Mrs. Loma Polvado and son Robert Lee, Mrs. Carl Cunningham and Omega Nell, Dayton C. Powell Jr., and Miss Marie Marshall. The town expects three new residents, Mr. and Mrs. James Travis and son Tony, former Minerva Polvado.
Mrs. E A Taylor and her son Terry are visiting her parents Rev. and Mrs. J D Smoot in New York City.
On April 19, Mr. and Mrs. Artie Layman hosted a dinner at Lake Banes Park in honor of their daughter Mrs. Howington who was traveling from California to join her husband Aral Howington at an army camp in Memphis Tennessee. Attendees included numerous Layman, Gober, Rogers, Murphree, Gore, Williams, Layman and Moore families and other guests.
Mrs J R Morris of Thalia visits Mr and Mrs Gef ford and Mr and Mrs Morris. Mr and Mrs Graham Smoot of Midland visit his parents Rev and Mrs J D Smoot.
