Wartime guidance outlines a 94 856 acre peanut quota with price supports of 82 dollars per ton or 1 23 dollars per 30 pounds. Advice covers seed sources, inoculation, soil prep, fertilization, planting rates, cultivation, crop rotation, and soil conservation to sustain farming beyond the war.
B G Combs resigns this week as principal of the Comanche Grammar School and departs for Denton to pursue advanced study at Teachers College and his Master’s degree in September. He plans to resume administrative work in a school system this fall. Mrs Combs will finalize his duties from the past year.
Major Joseph F. Gibson reports Army engineers will begin a thirty five foot creosoted pile and timber bridge over Stag Creek thirteen miles northwest of Comanche on April 27 with completion targeted for May 2. Precinct 1 provides camp and detour. Army supplies material and labor. The old bridge was destroyed by an Army truck during maneuvers last June. Commissioner W D Chapman has led efforts. a Board of Army Engineers evaluated the claim after site visits. Naturalized citizens may enlist in the U S Navy.
President Roosevelt urged continued baseball for morale and recreation as Dublin hosts the World Championship Rodeo, running tonight through Sunday. Comanche Rodeo to follow July 3 and 4 with Everett Colburn directing Dublin events alongside arena acts, stock from Lightning C Ranch, and seasonal rodeo contests.
Staff Sgt W L Morris and wife announce the birth of a son, Arthur Lee, on Saturday April 18 at Medical Arts Hospital in Brownwood. Sgt Morris is currently stationed at Camp Blanding, Florida.
Dairy Day in Comanche showcased 56 cattle with grand champions named Kul l ridden by Mark Greeslin of Goldthwaite and Rush Jolly Peggy from C O Norton Goldthwaite. Judges E R Eudaly G Gibson and Joe Shelton awarded ribbons across age classes and a milk tasting contest. Dinner patrons included Comanche merchants and local committees thanked for support.
Comanche rodeo fans will attend the Dublin show tonight weather permitting. Sutton Dudley secretary of the Comanche Roping Club says a block of 100 seats is reserved for Comanche spectators who will wear hat bands advertising the Comanche Rodeo set for July 3 and 4. The Dublin Rodeo is a member of the American Rodeo Association, which requires all contestants to be professionals.
A fresh yarn quota arrives to supply sleeveless sweaters turtle necked sweaters watch caps and helmets. Anyone wishing to knit should contact Mrs J B Lowry at 410 East Central Ave on Ft Worth Highway. Mrs Lowry takes over from Mrs Geo Preston Tate whose family illness ends her work. The community thanks both volunteers.
The AAA Office will stay open on Saturday afternoons during the present emergency. E. L. Pierson, administrative officer, says the office will operate six days a week instead of 52 days, allowing producers who come to Comanche on Saturdays to transact business and then devote the rest of the week to farm work.
WPA workers finish construction of the Edom school gymnasium and auditorium and begin campus beautification and athletic facilities development. The project marks completion of a key community improvement funded by federal aid.

Mr and Mrs A C Thomas of the Comanche County Rural Electrical Association attended a meeting of REA officials in Lubbock Friday and Saturday. Dr Robert Craig Deputy Administrator of St Louis Missouri spoke and held a conference for superintendents of West Texas REA cooperatives. The South Plains REA Cooperative building in Lubbock was dedicated Saturday afternoon.
Mr and Mrs W A Langley of Indian Creek receive word their son Pvt Nolan G Langley has been transferred to Ft Lawton Washington and is going well after earlier posting at Camp Roberts California
