The Chief Comanche announces Hewat Comanche area offices opening and 25th anniversary electrification celebrations. Side Grocery quits Gold Stamp program and offers Comanche Stamps redemption. Texarkana visitors over the weekend noted in town.
The Comanche County Electric Cooperative marks 25 years since rural power arrived. Founded in 1938 under A. C. As, it now serves about 5 000 farms and ranches across six counties with 3 000 miles of lines. Manager W W J Parks notes prepayments of 250 000 on a 4 million loan. average annual KWH use rose from 35 to 225. construction costs per energized mile roughly doubled. one rate increase since inception.
Mrs. Thomas J. Insall, past president of the National Story League and editor of Story Art Magazine, will conduct a public storytelling workshop at the Comanche Public Library on Saturday April 30. The event is open to all Comanche County residents and libraries members alike, highlighting regional folklore and storytelling circles.
In Comanche County Texas hundreds attend the annual five-community inspection tours as part of the Texas Community Improvement Program and Community Pasture Range Contest. Beattie and Hasse join Soda Springs Stag Creek Newburg as old pros with Newburg having recent state titles. Comanche County has 6079 motor vehicles registered since 1960 tag issuance. By April 1 the count was 5803 with about 275 still tagged after the deadline. Pre April 1 receipts totaled 81146.70 for county use while 31150.70 went to State funds.
The Comanche Junior High Band will perform plus group stunts and individual acts at the Talent Show and Stunt Night this Friday April 22 at 7 30 PM in the High School Auditorium. Tickets are 25 cents for students 50 cents for adults and available from PTA members or at the door.
Armstrong P. Cox elected to the Comanche National Bank board of directors and will join fellow directors J. C. Terrell president J. W. Moore and others. Cox is a local businessman veteran and active church and American Legion leader. Sidney Junior Play Set For Friday April 22 at 7:30 pm in the high school auditorium. County agricultural agent announces a Friday night meeting on April 22 at 7 30 in the Comanche County Courtroom to discuss controlling the pecan nut casebearer. The program includes life history, spray schedule, and colored insect slides.
A house to house cancer fund drive will be held in Comanche Tuesday night April 25. City Chairman Mrs Jim Ellis says Joe Tupin will lead the drive in the business section. Help fight this dread disease with a check says Mrs Ellis. The note on symptoms of fatigue and laziness appears in the item.
Mary Ann Durham of Comanche is the valedictorian with a 96.3 average for the 1959-60 CHS senior class. Tom White of San Angelo is salutatorian with a 95.1 average and has lived at Dillin's Children's Home three years. Other honor list members include Judith Allen 93.4 Nancy Davis 93.1 Mary Payne 93.1.
O D Johnson reports 4027 peanut acres released to the County ASC Committee for reapportionment in 1960. Chamber of Commerce, County Agent Angus Dickson Jr and De Leon Community Club led drives with E A Walker backing local outreach. Meetings in Comanche and De Leon spurred growers to return unused acreage for potential planting, boosting county finances.
