O. D. Johnston announces final date Friday April 15 to request Form ACP.01 for Practice B-2 Deferred Grazing. Grazing must be withheld May 1 through October 31 to qualify for 50 cents per acre cost share, with min 25 acres and max 300 acres per farm. land with oak brush infestation over 60 percent or unreseeded abandoned fields are ineligible. land deferred in both 1958 and 1939 is not eligible.
Coleman voters rejected a proposal to legalize sale of alcohol by a two to one margin. The totals were 716 yes and 1,398 no. Fort Worth visitors Mr and Mrs George Massingill and children spent the weekend with his parents.
Comanche residents Bobbye Sullivan and Peggy Godfrey are among 15 Tarleton State College nominees for the Parents Day Queen. They will be recognized at Tarleton Memorial College on Sunday May 1 with the contest winner announced that day. Godfrey is daughter of Jim and Mrs Godfrey Rt 2 Comanche. Sullivan is daughter of E W Sullivan 691 W Paine.
The Union Sunrise Easter Service will be held Sunday April 17 at 6 30 am in the First Methodist Church Comanche with Rev Piez Todd presiding and Rev Kenneth Rouse delivering the Easter message. Rev Henry Chambers will read scripture lead in prayer and Dr Baxter Greer give the benediction.
The 28th annual Texas State Singing Convention will be held in Stephenville this weekend April 16 and 17 at the Recreation Building.
The annual organizing tours occur Tuesday and Wednesday in Comanche County with stops at Soda Springs Stag Creek Newburg Beattie and Hasse special tour The Texas Community Improvement Program and Community Range and Pasture Program judges will review work by local leaders and extension agents Visitors may attend and observe the year's progress in community efforts and planning
Local leaders and Congressman Burleson announce $50 000 from Farm ers Home Administration to Comanche Erath and Eastland Counties. Texas FHA director says only existing borrowers may receive funds until more money is allocated while an extra $190 000 from another state is transferred to Texas.
Forty three members attended the Lions Club meeting Tuesday night as the nominating committee proposed officers for the new year starting July 1. Names include Boyd Anthony as President Jess Brown as 1st Vice President Gilmore Durham as 2nd Vice President Elzo Binson as 3rd Vice President M L Gaither as Secretary Treasurer Dr B D D Greer as Lion Tanner J C Biggs as Tail Twister Roy Brannan Jr as Director and Roy Dabney as Director. Carry over directors are Pat Cagle and John W King. One new member added was M T Fox the local deputy sheriff.
Granbury Pirates won the 8-AA district meet at Tarleton Field Stephenville with 187 points ahead of Comanche 151. Jerry Carswell led Granbury with three firsts and a sprint relay win, while Comanche set meet records in the mile relay and discus and shot by Jackson Bowers. Junior division saw Jerry Todd dominate with a broad jump mark and multiple wins.
An old fashioned revival runs April 15 to 24 at East Side Baptist Church in Comanche with 7 30 p m services nightly. Rev Harry Hames preaches on topics such as Revival The Kind e Need and What Will Take Place When Jesus Comes. Joe Middleton leads singing and Mrs Maudie Creek is pianist.
Mr and Mrs Castile B Ellis came back Tuesday from a week in New York and Washington DC. In Washington Ellis represented the local Chamber of Commerce at a hearing on the Proctor Dam.
