Department engineer O M Simpson began surveying the Comanche to Brown county line segment of Highway No 10. Final federal and state inspections precede contract letting with bids hoped for May 15 and work starting in early June.
Funds raised by the Comanche Ex-Students Association aim to honor two late public school leaders, F Rogers and Bert W. S. The committee, led by Miss Ola Cunningham, has collected 153 dollars with pledges from Texas and other states, planning a memorial on the old high school campus with the bell atop it and a reunion in the spring or summer.
Comanche plans its first Jersey cattle show on May 7 with Chamber of Commerce and County Agent Barton organizing a premier exhibit. Contestants await prize awards as dairying interest grows through Jersey calf shipments and regional dairy leaders plan talks and exhibits.

In the Sipe Springs oil region several wells began or continued drilling. Bryson well No 2 spudded near Comanche, then work paused for connections and resumed with optimism. Gardenhire tract deep test contracted near Elmore land may extend field east. Morgan tract shallow test started near Sipe Springs and Cooper tract rig construction underway. Goss well on T J Goss tract aims for 8200 feet with gas shows at 2990 feet. Over 6,000 acres leased. further wells expected if current progress holds.
At Brownwood on Friday Comanche County scored 59 points in regular literary events and earned multiple places in music contests. Winners include Faye Gilbreath second in Class A Essay, Vernon Walton third in rural essay, Elfreda Lubke first in Three A contest, Maurice Hoffman second in Junior boys declamation, Berna Cochran first in Junior girls declamation, Naomi Caraway third in Junior girls declamation, and John Carl Haskins first in Senior boys declamation.
The Comanche Band will perform Sunday afternoon April 22 at 3 oclock on the Court House Lawn. Weather had delayed Easter concerts but the program proceeds next Sunday with Harmon in charge.

The District Court convened for the spring term with Judge Bidson delivering the grand jury charge. The panel and bailiffs were selected, including foreman Tom Jackson and bailiffs Denney Conner Elmer Little and Bob Dyson. Several cases were set or continued, with verdicts and dismissals noted, and multiple divorces granted or actions continued.
