A lady red on the hill keeps an annual secret while a white lady rests in a placid field. Tidied breezes sweep vale and hill as neighbors miss what lies unseen. The woods exchange smiles and the landscape remains still, as if the resurrection is nothing odd.
The Tasty Food Products Company of Brownwood plans to return to Comanche to buy fresh snapped and shelled blackeyed peas this season. Manager P. C. Barnes says plant a few acres in separate plantings and that operations will start around June 15 for four to six weeks. Peas will be bought whole for snapped and two cents paid for snaps with higher price for shelled peas. Local shelling possible but not guaranteed. Purchases to occur on Mondays Wednesdays Thursdays and Fridays.
Comanche County launches a health education program in eight districts with Dr. Barnett and Dr. Mahon of the State Health Department outlining a plan to provide a nurse and a sanitary engineer to assist school health campaigns. County Superintendent R. S. Walker chairs the county committee with W. T. House and Dr. J. Q. Lane among others, as local committees are formed to support vaccination and physical exams for children in the district.
The spring term opens Monday April 21 with 43 felony complaints and 50 civil cases before Justice of Peace J. D. Bonner and District Court. Theft leads felonies with seven complaints, followed by failure to render aid after collision. Divorces total seventeen applications. After Judge Eidson charges the grand jury, non jury civil cases proceed.
A witty exchange shows a servant and editor in a clash over anecdotes about presidents. The servant notes many callers while the editor hopes for better company. The editor offers two dollars for a Hoover anecdote, recalling a prior four-dollar Wilson piece.

The letter contrasts city life with Chicago and Akron as it highlights the rare restraint on sidewalks vs heavy contact in transit.
Allen Davis, under indictment in Comanche County for forgery, was arrested at Starr Tuesday by Sheriff Dwight Wrightman and Deputy Turner Sanders. He allegedly forged the name Harmon Knight of White Point and passed several checks to Comanche merchants, with an indictment said to date from last October.
Rev Thomas B Gallaher, two year pastor of the Comanche Presbyterian Church, accepts the pastorate at First Presbyterian Church in Commerce. He will preach his last Comanche sermon on Sunday April 26. Gallaher was called April 1 1929 and began duties in July, coming from Austin where he studied at the Seminary and pastored in Rosebud.
Healer Chevrolet Co announces a large batch of high class used cars purchased from West Texas dealers. The dealership invites customers to inspect the inventory and take advantage of unusually low prices on the vehicles.
Elijah Mavis Lane, a Comanche County man near Mercer Creek, is noted as possibly the oldest resident in the area at ninety three. Born in 184? in Georgia, Lane recalls serving as Civil War tax collector, carrying £60,000 to Georgia’s State Capitol on horseback. He attributes longevity to outdoor work, regular meals, and one daily coffee, with a life long Democratic voting record since 1860. He moved to Comanche County in 1902, has six living children, and still farms a 360 acre property with his son Lee.
Misses Catherine and Theresa Dudley of Dallas spent the weekend in Comanche with their mother, Mrs. C. R. M. Dudley.
Newly installed Mayor T. R. Haggard announced Gustine will observe April 21 and 22 as Clean Up days. Volunteers will beautify school and church grounds vacant lots and surrounding properties to improve the town.
Governor Sterling signed the Woodward bill allowing defendants in non-capital cases who plead guilty to waive the right to trial by jury. The measure also authorizes judges to grant suspended sentences in such cases. The Senate passed it by two votes with little House opposition.
Gustine High School took top honors at the District Agricultural Declamation contest held at John Tarleton College. Claude Mercer won first place and his brother Alton Mercer placed second, representing Gustine ich School in county meet debates. Claude will advance to the State Meet at Texas A&M College.
The last outstanding court house bond was paid off by treasurer Miss Ira Hart on April 10. This completes the refunding of the 1892 building bonds, $32,000, dated April 1, 1899, and Comanche County now owes only $7,000 on the jail. Mrs Will Roberson visited Dallas last week.
Mrs R B W Speed and child visited Gustine on Sunday, enjoying time with relatives and local sights in a brief social note from the community.
Gustine voters chose Tom Haggard as mayor in last week’s city election. Aldermen elected include Ed Palmer L S Alsup Jim Young Paris Isham and B A Howell. Paul Davis was elected tax collector and assessor with thirty two votes cast. Haggard succeeds Sadel er who did not seek re election.
Mrs G Dittocard R A Isham Paris Isham and Mrs R H Johnson will receive a family pass to the Ritz on Wednesday April 22 in Gustine Texas.
George Wetsel opens a barber shop Tuesday in the Arch Adams building near the Square. He lost his previous north side shop to a last fall fire and has been at Wilhelm shop. Tom Moore, his former partner, will run a chair in the new Wetzel shop.
