Detour work at Leon River Bridge advances with surfaceing, piling driving, and concrete material mobilization for completion next week.
Clarence Webb, reportedly serving a two year term for forgery in Comanche County, was arrested in Quitman last week on county information. Deputy Turner Sanders and Charlie Biggs escorted Webb back to Comanche on Thursday after a Wednesday pickup. Webb allegedly forged a name to a check and cashed it at Slider Brothers over two years ago, while out on bond until his sentence was affirmed by the Court of Criminal Appeals over a year ago and officers had failed to locate him until last week.
James Bryan Porter eldest son of Mr and Mrs W H Porter Gustine was found dead in the yard between church services. A small calibre rifle with a exploded shell was found near the coop. An inquest ruled death a self inflicted gunshot wound. A note in his clothing said not to worry and that he was taking his own life.
Co Agent J A Barton urges all cotton farmers in Comanche County to attend a Cotton Seed Meeting at the Court House on Saturday April 11 at 2 30 PM. The goal is to boost seed quality and crop value by adopting Texas State Certified Seed treated with Ceresan and guaranteed by state and federal standards. Two swap options proposed: eight bushels of gin run seed for one Texas State Certified seed.

The Dallas News notes Oak Cliff Councilman Moore a Cox Moore Drug Company president born in Comanche Texas in 1890. He moved from West Texas groceries to Dallas in 1921 joins his current firm. Married to former Forest High teacher Maurine Richards he chairs civic groups and lives on Center Street.
County Foreman John Hart says a metal fireproof warehouse thirty by sixty will be built on City property north of the Canning Plant. It will house machinery equipment and materials with office space and utilities. lease details must be completed before work starts.
Gasoline thieves operated at Hasse Sunday night breaking two pumps at the Butler Filling Station on the new Highway near the school house and stole 90 gallons of gasoline. Mr and Mrs Hill Huddleston are visiting in Fort Worth.
Rural Route No. 5 once run by the late J C Greer will merge with Route No. 3 run by T B Banes on May 1. Mr Barnes will continue to serve most boxes on the combined route except a few in Comanche city. The new route gives Mr Barnes 52.6 miles, the second longest out of Comanche. Route No 6 under G S Clarke becomes Route No 6 as part of the consolidation.
Dr. C. Kingman pastor of the First Christian Church Electra and former Comanche teacher will preach the Baccalaureate sermon to the Comanche High School graduating class. The address is set for the High School auditorium on Sunday May 24 at 11 a.m.
An effort by Comanche County schools to lead a poisoning experiment uses salt and strychnine blocks donated by the Chamber of Commerce. The program, begun March 17 with A and M Extension Service staff, saw 11 of 19 blocks kill rabbits within 75 feet, though experts warn the kill radius may be larger as rabbits travel.
Oris Norwood of Comanche was arrested at Coleman Saturday and Sunday returned to Comanche by Deputy Turner Sanders. Statutory charges were filed and he was released Tuesday on a 1500 bond awaiting grand jury action.
Mrs. John Gage received word Wednesday night of the death of her uncle, Sam Ford, former Editor in Chief in the 1970s, at Alpine. Miss Johnnie Magness spent the weekend in Brownwood.
The Comanche election set a record with 652 votes as Mayor J R Eanes was unopposed and reelected. Hill Huddleston won City Secretary over C M Moore 1404 to 238, W Pate retained City Marshal 229 to 202 against A G Miller with 107 for W C Magness and 104 for Jim C Cunningham. N A Palmer tallied 627 for City Recorder and Bob McCampbell 660 for City Attorney. J H Wilhelm 493 and Gail P Dudley 634 won alderman seats.
L. F. Elkins Tom F. Reese and Robert Eaton were elected to the Comanche Independent School District board. Filkins and Reese were reelected Eaton replaces M Coleman who did not seek another term. Only 86 votes cast. Holdover members are George Goosby J A Lee Charlee Hoffman and Dewey Barnes.
Joe Ellis of Democrat A J Lloyd of Soda Springs and Judge R A Luker of Procter were elected delegates to the District Farm Bureau meeting to be held in Lampasas on Saturday.
Kay Roberts, manager of Mardin Lumber Company in Brownwood, elected alderman of Ward 3. Roberts formerly lived at Gustine and took office Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Helm have been elected to teach at Brysonville School for the next session. He previously served as Superintendent of Sterling City Schools and she taught there for seven years before moving to Comanche County two years ago.
