John Hall Named Mayor of Comanche in Election

John Henry Hall, 58, was elected as Comanche’s new mayor without opposition. A former city council member, Hall has wide experience in business and local leadership. He previously worked with mills in Brownwood and Houston, ran multiple businesses here, and modernized the Comanche Courts.

Assemblies of God Opens New Church in Comanche

The Assemblies of God purchase of a rock building on North Austin Street six blocks north of the Comanche square enables a new church opening. Rev. Jyde McCullough from Palestine Texas will be pastor with a dedication service set for Friday April 12 and a San Angelo Section Fellowship Meeting hosted by the church. The denomination notes rapid growth with 65 percent member increase in ten years and the North Texas District Council’s large number of churches.

Comanche Men Attend Industrial Meeting In Dublin

Professor Lee Payne of Texas A M spoke at a Dublin meeting on attracting industry. Local Comanche attendees included Ted Dorman president Bill Parks vice president Bill Wilkerson industrial committeeman Richard Armstrong and Frank Reese. He noted 150 new Texas industries last year 10 percent in towns under 10 000 and 30 billion expansion in three years. The Comanche Chamber of Commerce plans to file an industrial survey with the Texas Power and Light Company.

Postal Restrictions Begin April 1957

Postmaster announces gradual cutbacks due to funds. Starting April 13 1957 the office closes to the public all day Saturdays and city and rural delivery ends on Saturdays except Special Delivery. By April 29 no third class mail or money orders will be issued. Window hours narrow to about 8 30 am to 5 pm weekdays.

Soil Bank Deadline April 15 for 1957 Reserve Program

Comanche County ASC chair William F. Bryant urges farmers to file contracts for the Soil Bank Conservation Reserve Program. Closing date is April 5 with 49 county farmers already signed for 4269.2 acres. Johnson grass seeded likely largest share. government covers about 80 percent of seeding costs. County farmers will receive about $38,135.52 annually over five years.

Comanche County School Trustee Election Results

Voter turnout was highest in the Comanche district with mild interest overall. In Gustine eight candidates sought three board seats. De Leon Hebert Lee Spruill and Cotton Nabors won. County Board picks: L C Durham from Precinct 1 and Jess Hanson from Precinct 3, each unopposed.

City Water Supply Certified for USDA Seal

The Texas Department of Public Health certified Comanche's city water supply as pure for food processing. The accreditation, issued to the United States Department of Agriculture, allows poultry from Omanche's Farmers Produce and other local plants to bear the USDA seal and enter major markets.

Dairyman To Meet Tuesday Night

Comanche School Board approves contracts and re-elections

The Comanche Public Schools re-elected all 46 faculty members and approved three-year extensions for Superintendent Joe Harper and Coach Mike Murphy at the reorganized board meeting. New officers are Cecil Fisher president, E W Cap Gleaton vice president, John Robertson secretary-treasurer. New board members John S Brazier and Darrell M Smith join six others.

Barbara Nell Harris daughter of Mr and Mrs Harris Gustine won first place in the 4-H Share-The-Fun festival and will compete in district eliminations in Stephenville this weekend. Moore Resigns District Clerk. Wilhelm Named to Fill Term

Tom Moore, district clerk since 1955, resigned effective May 1 for health reasons. Judge Cross appointed Ben Wilhelm of Comanche to complete the term ending Jan 1, 1959. Wilhelm, a former district clerk, also runs a gin and tax office with Charles Carter. The Kilpatricks of Fort Smith, Ark., visited Greene family during the weekend.

Wreck Injuries Fatal To Henry Kemp

Henry Kemp a longtime manager at Texas Power and Light in Comanche died from injuries after a motor vehicle collision in De Leon on April 4. His wife suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized. Funeral services were held at the Comanche Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Oakwood Cemetery.
