Successful AAA Farm Tour Highlights Progress in Winter Crops

A large delegation of about 200 farm agents ranchers and businessmen toured ten Comanche County farms and ranches to witness winter cover crop progress. The event featured talks by agricultural experts from Texas A&M College a barbecue at Barret Hereford Ranch and demonstrations of Austrian Winter Peas hair vetch and related practices.

Metcalfe seeks reelection in 25th District race

Penrose B. Metcalfe announced his candidacy for re election from the 16 county 25th District. A veteran and Army Air Corps World War I pilot native of Tom Green County and business man, he plans to unveil his platform and objectives soon and campaign across the district.

Mrs. Myrtle Carroll Remembered A Noted Teacher Composer

Mrs. Myrtle Carroll wife of W D Carroll died at home Friday April 5 after an illness began last June. Funeral services were held Saturday at the residence with Rev W B Gray officiating. Interment was Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers were L C Dillard J T Pate J H London Thed Woolsey Ira Clemons and Wade Kendrick. She was born in Comanche daughter of the late John S Gerganess and Mary Louise Leforce Gerganess. A graduate of local schools she studied music at Daniel Baker College and Southern Methodist University. A renowned composer and piano teacher for over 25 years in Comanche she left a lasting mark on the area music scene. She is survived by her husband W D Carroll a former deputy sheriff and county official, a brother Ira Gerganess of Llano and a sister Mrs B Cardwell of Comanche. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Llano.

Inspection For Proposed Leon Dam Site

E V Spence of the State Board of Water Engineers and Freese and Nichols engineers inspected Leon River dam site proposals from the five county flood control plan. Brazos District directors meet to decide sponsoring the program, which would trigger preliminary surveys estimates and legal advice for dams near Jonesboro Proctor and Ranger, saving eight sponsor towns.

Comanche County Red Cross Drive total reached 5 013 35 dollars surpassing the 3 490 quota by over 1500 dollars and placing the county among the first ten to hit the goal. Comanche County Car Tags Rise With Returning Servicemen

About 4200 cars and trucks were registered in Comanche County by April 1, an increase of roughly 600 since 1945. Tax Assessor-Collector J Lightfoot notes many returning servicemen boosted numbers. Receipts near 50000 dollars stay in the county for road work, with potential to reach 60000 dollars this year as registrations rise.
