The Magnony Petroleum Company bought the jet property across from J. B. Morris second hand store and will erect a gas station. Dr W Ore involved and A J Blevins to have ree of the station, details unclear.
In De Leon area reports say Loewe is pursuing the senatorial race with many supporters backing him. He promises a definite answer within a week or ten days about entering the race and seeks to recruit capable services from Mr Lowe’s experience and breadth of view.
A conference of senior high school students from the region gathered in Brownwood Saturday under the Baptist Students' Union of Howard Payne College. More than 200 attendees were hosted by Allen and Payne College with sessions featuring Dr. H. Weatherly of Crocket, Texas, and a social at night.
A brief item notes Priten Tidmere son of ROS timers will deliver a speech at the court house on Saturday. Four trustees were elected to fill the four vacancies in the Saturday trustee election. Named winners include J. P. Keard, Jim Moolty, Hardy Jones, and John Reese, with vote tallies shown for each candidate and other voting details partially recorded.
The C H S juniors hosted a successful banquet for the seniors marking the end of class rivalry. Guests included class presidents Collin Dingwell and Carter Wilson. The event featured yellow jonquils, white and gold decor, toasts by John Sullivan and Gaynelle Canley, a turkey dinner, and a five sophomores serving in French maid costumes. About 100 attended, with Elizabeth Sewery chairing the banquet committee.

The American Band plans an open air concert Sunday at 3:30 PM on the Comanche square inviting farmers and nearby towns. Lynch Davidson, gubernatorial candidate, postpones speaking dates in San Angelo Stephenville Miles Ballinger Comanche and Coleman due to urgent business in Houston and San Antonio. He will speak in San Antonio on April 11 and return to west Texas later.
Road commissioners this week widen Cemetery Street from thirty to fifty feet and connect it directly with the De Leon road. The improvement, long needed, will improve traffic flow and access to the cemetery area.
Jake Evans of Hamilton buys Schick's Bakery from Walter H. Schick. Evans has 15 years in Hamilton baking and will move his family to Comanche when school ends. he and his brother will run the bakery together with his brother in charge.
At the County Shorthorn Breeders Association quarterly meeting in Comanche the focus was on future beef supplies. Small farms are rising to meet demand for baby beeves, amid shrinking old ranges and increased interest in a quality meat market. A baby beef club with prizes is planned, inviting local boys to join via breeders or County Agent J. A. Barton.
Mrs Martha Wiswell died in a sanatorium in Fort Worth on Tuesday while visiting her sister Miss Mary McMillan. She was sister to the late Judge McMillan. Her former home was Columbus Kansas. Mrs J H McMillan and her son Carvel of Rising Star traveled to Fort Worth after the illness news.
The Arrow-Head benefit performance Tuesday night featured high school boys presenting The Poor Married Man. Collin Dingwall Omer Tullis Paul Cunningham and Dean Hamilton played girls’ parts cleverly. Miss Glennie Hoff directed the program and introduced several attractive specialties.
The school carnival last Friday evening raised about 14 dollars for the girls basketball team. Candy gum ice cream cones hamburgers and side shows contributed to a joyous event at the high school.
Comanche County Farm Bureau met in Comanche on April 7 with full attendance. The group approved lending 50 to the poultry association to support a district poultry effort and appointed a committee to recruit for 20,000 hens. The bureau will back Lions club in locating Ferguson branch seed breeding farm in the county and will meet on Saturdays before the first Monday at 2 pm. Children with worms advised to use White's Cream Vermifuge sold by Ss. LP. Smith.
The pastor of Comanche church will depart in the latter part of May after four and a half years of service. He has grown to love the people and they him. His final sermons in the series "The Revelation of John" in the morning and "The Essentials of Faith" in the evening are of special interest and appreciated by all.
A large group of Comanche Lions attended a Good Roads meeting in Priddy Tuesday night. They discussed highway location near Priddy and pledged to pressure the highway commission to place the road in that direction. Goldthwaite residents were present, including Lions K. L. Macon J. B. Chilton Jr. C. P. St. Clair Hardy Slider H. BR. Lacy J. D. Slack and H. E. Moore.
The Comanche Lions Club met with forty four members. Myrt Sullivan was chosen as delegate to the state Lions club convention in Paris on May 5 and 6. J A Barton and Eustace McCullough were elected members. A committee was named to attend the Priddy good roads meeting. A city cleanup was discussed. The next meeting will be April 21 with dinner by the Study Club.
The University of Texas relay team will compete in the international sprint medley at the Penn Relay Carnival, marking its first appearance. The UT quartet includes Hackler Monett Richie and Reese under Coach Littlefield, with Cambridge University and top American colleges also entered. This meet is among the world’s largest, and Comanche can be proud that a native son will participate.
Dallas mourns Dr. W. H. Anderson death last week. A widely popular figure in the city and Presbyterian ranks, his passing draws editorials praising his esteem and impact on state religious life and public affairs.
The Old Settlers Association executive committee will meet Saturday April 12 at L B Russell's office to set time and conditions for the next annual reunion. Members include W D Jenkins president J Doss Miller vice president L B Russell secretary treasurer and others from Rush Creek Indian Creek and more. Members 70 years and older are enrolled and a full death list is sought.

The Knights of Pythias district meeting gathered in Stephenville with John Tarleton lodge No. 227 hosting. Delegations from De Leon, Brownwood, Comanche, Hamilton, Walnut Springs, Stephen ville, Meridias, Dublin and Hico attended. Local officials presided and a banquet followed with remarks by grand officers and Rev Culpepper.
A H Turney died Sunday from burns sustained Saturday night near Wilson when gasoline ignited while he filled a car tank by lantern light. He was 26 and survived by a widow, two children, five brothers and three sisters. funeral services were held Monday and burial was in Carlton cemetery.
The First Presbyterian Church reports Pastor Hinderlite is traveling from Virginia and hopes to reach Comanche by Saturday to fill the pulpit Sunday morning. Recently returning from Brazil, he has long served as a missionary and contributed to Presbyterian missionary writings. The congregation welcomes his arrival.
Mrs. Alice E. Kellar died at her daughter Mrs. C W Ory home after a long illness and a fall. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the residence of Dr C W Ory, with Dr C C Kling officiating. Interment followed in Oakwood Cemetery. pallbearers were P P Mackey W H Rowland A P Cox J R Eanes George Montgomery and Myrt J Sullivan. An extended life history will appear next week.

The Parent-Teachers Association in the west ward building elected officers for the year. Mrs J E Chilton was chosen president and the slate included Mrs John Luker as first vice president, Mrs Gee Montgomery as second vice president, Miss Glennie Hoff as third vice president, Mrs H H Durham as corresponding secretary, and Mrs A M Lovelace as recording secretary.
