MacEvan Palmer son of Mr and Mrs Evan Palmer of Comanche trains as aviation cadet at Columbus Army Air Base Mississippi. He expects to receive silver wings and a second lieutenant commission in June. He is a 1940 Comanche High School graduate and athlete in football basketball baseball and tennis. Also pictured Cpl Glenn Hicks Comanche native and Mirage assistant editor at Muroc Army Air Base California. Hicks joined with John David Milton and R L Edwards after graduation in 1941. Milton is missing in action since the Philippines surrender. Edwards is in the Air Corps at Muroc.

Scrap Drive Ends Saturday in Comanche County War Effort
Comanche County Scrap Iron Drive will close Saturday per County Chairman C F Denny after April 5 to 10 drive. Farmers have marketed over 25,000 pounds of scrap iron in one day and more than $15,000 paid to farmers. Lt Raymond T Luke and Camp Bowie salvage units plan to cover multiple counties with hundreds of tons of scrap sent to steel mills for war uses.

Anny To Begin Drafting Fathers In 1942 Plan
Washington dispatch in the Fort Worth Star Telegram says 14 of 16 married men in 3-A will be inducted regardless of family size. With 7 to 8 million in 3-A, many rejected for defects, officials estimate 14 of passable men will be drafted. First calls for fathers near July 1 with about 400,000 fathers drafted monthly thereafter.

Funeral Rites Held For Naval Cadet Moody
Naval Aviation Cadet Johnnye Bill Moody, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Moody of Dublin, was buried after a Monday service at First Baptist Church. Moody died in a landing accident at the Dallas Naval air station. Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery with a Camp Bowie color guard and taps. He was born November 28, 1922 in Comanche and survived by his parents, a brother in the Navy, a fiancé, grandparents, and other relatives.
