District Court Opens Spring Term With Judge Cross Presiding

District Court convenes in Comanche Monday for the spring term with a light docket. Judge R B Cross, recently recovering from illness and surgery, is expected to preside for the first time in months, with Judge Belcher of Stephenville having covered in previous terms. The grand jury will convene at 9 o clock Monday, drawn from listed residents including J S Striplin Gustine J H Young Dublin and others from Comanche De Leon and Gustine.

County Banks Buy $277000 In Bonds For 2nd War Loan

Comanche County is tasked with a $502000 quota for the Thirteen Billion Dollar Second War Bond Drive in April. Banks have subscribed their share and now urge individuals to contribute, noting the more bonds bought, the sooner American servicemen return home, echoing the slogan They give their all you lend your money.

Pacific Fighter Visits Comanche

Oscar Henson son of Mr and Mrs W L Henson of Comanche Route 2 was in Comanche on a 15 day Navy furlough from the South Pacific war zone aboard the U S S Salt Lake City. He recalls landing on an island with naked natives who admired American haircuts and asked for similar styles.

Daughter Born to Lt and Mrs Hutton in Brownwood

A daughter was born April 11 at a Brownwood hospital to Lt and Mrs Allen Q. Hutton. The newborn weighs 74 pounds and is named Faith. Her mother, the former Miss Dorris Goosby, a 1938 Comanche High School graduate, is the daughter of Mr and Mrs J C Gooeby of Newburg. Lt Hutton is stationed in North Africa.

City Teachers Are Re-Elected

The Comanche Public School system re elected every teacher at a school board meeting Tuesday night. High School Principal Virgil Chaffin, inducted into the Army Wednesday, was re elected for another year, to begin with his discharge. Mrs. Chaffin was re elected to a regular position, and Mrs. John Dyer, recently back from the North, was also re elected alongside Coach Dyer, who is now in the Army.

Two Hamilton Papers Sold And Consolidated

Coy Perry of Mexia purchased the Hamilton County News from Bernard K. Wilkerson and the Hamilton Record-Herald from Mrs. L O Peck. The two papers have been consolidated into one publication named the Hamilton Herald News in the Record-Herald building. The Herald began in 1876 and the News about ten years ago.

Comanche County Aims for Food Victory Through Diverse Crops

Comanche County plans a broad food program to avert shortages if rain is normal in 1943. Farmers expect record marketing, with wheat feeding hogs, beef cattle and dairy expansion, and large peanut and potato crops. Dairy herds rise 25 to 30 percent, eggs reach 10 000 cases monthly, and a substantial turkey and cheese output is anticipated.

Marketing of Excess Peanuts for Seed Planting in 1943

The text states that marketing excess peanuts for seed planting in 1943 does not incur the 3cent per pound penalty if conditions are met. Requirements include farming in 1943, purchase solely for planting, a county committee approved certificate, and a price not above the oil-excess peanut price plus handling costs. County committees act as the marketing agency for this program.

Second Quota Of Red Cross Surgical Dressings Finished

The second quota of surgical dressings has just been completed. Mrs. A. P. Cox, chairman of the Comanche County Red Cross Surgical Dressing Center, says there will be work for all volunteers the rest of this week and calls for help to prepare dressings for shipment to the armed forces. New regulations require a different type of head dress for all workers. Material is furnished and will be used this weekend at the center. All volunteers to assist are welcomed, with no more work after Saturday until the next quota arrives in about three weeks.

Dairy Day to Judge Comanche County cattle show

E R Eudaly and G G Gibson of the Texas A M Extension Service will judge Comanche County s Second Annual Dairy Day at the rodeo grounds Tuesday. Animals will be judged by dairy type classification with ribbons only, plus separate contests for adults and youth in cattle and dairy products.

Second Annual Dairy Show Draws Top Cattle For Classification

A dairy day show at Comanche Bay Park Tuesday April 20 features top county dairy cattle, Herefords, and Shorthorns. Judging uses classification, with registered bulls from the Jersey Breeders Association highlighted, and no beef judging. Admission is free.

The Comanche Luncheon Club led the War Bond and Stamp Drive with a sale totaling $13,200 in bonds and stamps. Scrap Iron Still Coming In Here

The 10 day scrap drive led by County Chairman C. F. Denny ended last Saturday with strong farmer cooperation. Sol Hoffman bought 58 000 pounds on Saturday and began loading his 34th car for shipment to a war plant. Farmers continue delivering as machinery wears out and the Army is reported in Coleman County.
