A mass meeting is called for Tuesday evening at seven thirty in the district court room. All farmers, traders, and interested residents are urged to attend to discuss improving the county marketing system. J R Nes chairs the committee issuing the call.
Comanche man Jack Everett was seriously burned when gasoline he was priming ignited. He was taken to a German hospital for treatment with injuries to his body and face described as critical.
M Coleman, new Comanche mayor elect, pledges two years of progress including lower water rates in summer, a city market for farmers produce, and tax reductions to encourage home building. Born 1873 in Mineral Falls TX he moved to Comanche in 1904 and has long run the grocery business. previously mayor 1933 years served on school board.
Twenty years ago the Tippitt Well near Comanche struck oil at 2815 feet. Local plans outlined a new $100,000 hotel with 100 rooms and modern conveniences. Also noted were grocery prices and a Comanche High School track meet winner Proctor in Class A and Ott R. Winters and Treva Thompson's marriage.
Retiring Mayor John E Hoff of Comanche will leave office on May 1 after two successful terms. During his tenure nearly one hundred blocks of streets were paved and a new City Hall and Fire Station were built. The fire department received new equipment and the water system expanded, among other improvements. He did not seek re election.
A C Thomas, superintendent of the Comanche Eastland REA, gains authority to begin Brown County REA development with plans to extend lines to Eastland and Mills counties and to Brownwood. He urges farmer involvement and announces a series of membership meetings across Zephyr Blanket Beattie Sipe Springs and Duster, with construction to start upon material arrival.
Comanche County was excluded from the State Highway Commission 1939 40 program. Hilton Burks appeals at Austin, urging extensions of Highway 36 and improvements on 81 with bridges. Commissioner Harry Hines hints at a separate plan using special funds to complete county roads.
Hal Shockley of Lamkin narrowly defeats Judge R A Luker of Proctor by one vote in County School Trustee Precinct No 3. The tally shows 102 to 101. W J Fritts unopposed for County Trustee Precinct No 2. Box results list Shockley-Luker tallies by location.
The First Baptist Church of Comanche announces a spring revival starting Easter Sunday April 9 with Rev. A Edwin Wilson leading services and Eiland Fagan directing the singing. Morning sessions begin at 10 and evening services at 8, continuing for two weeks.
The Comanche fifty four piece band directed by Pat Howard travels Friday by bus with band members and mothers to Abilene for the Regional Band Meet at Hardin-Simmons University. They enter the Class B division with forty three bands overall and seventeenth in Class B. Playing contests occur Friday night and Saturday.
Class B playground ball begins Saturday April 8 in this town. George Willis, interscholastic League athletic director, says the event moved up a week from April 15 at coaches' suggestion. Play starts at nine o'clock Saturday.
Six liquor cases and one misdemeanor theft were disposed of before County Judge R S McCharen. Convictions include W W Walker for possession of liquor for sale with a 200 dollar fine and costs. Lee Reagan for sale of intoxicating liquor with 100 dollar fine and costs. Others acquitted or pled guilty with small fines totaling 95 dollars.
Voters turned out heavily in the city election with 568 ballots cast, far above prior years. M Coleman was chosen mayor, Clyde House and Oswell Brightman joined the city council, Aaron Massingill filled an unexpired term, Hardie Jones won a full term as city secretary, Jim Cunningham was reelected city marshal, and Bob McCambell became city attorney. Rev A B Lightfoot preached at Trickham Baptist Church.
Comanche opens spring football with 52 players on the first workout. By midweek eight players dropped out leaving seven returning letter men and eight reserve lettermen from the district champion squad. Captains named are Johnnie Pate and Wilburn Fletcher.
Comanche voters re elected City Marshal Jim Cunningham by 101 votes in a long family line of county peace officers. Cunningham, in office about seven years, previously served as nightwatchman. The Cunningham name spans seventy years in Comanche County peace service, with multiple family members serving as sheriffs in nearby counties.
Mrs Tobe Morrow of Durant Oklahoma spent Sunday in Co manche with her niece Miss Zanette Lane.

A 1929 statement outlines delays on old age assistance as House leaders seek money for Social Security. The speaker criticizes wasted sessions and notes 929 bills introduced with little impact while stressing cooperation with the Governor and respect for public service. April 3, 1929.
Hardie Jones, appointed City Secretary to fill the late Hit Huddleston’s term, won a clear majority Tuesday over two opponents. A longtime local school board member and former president, Jones has roots in the Sidney community and previously worked as a Texaco agent in Comanche.
The Comanche Chamber of Commerce intends to establish a market for blackeyed peas in Comanche County. A committee including I. M. Vineyard W. H. Thate and J. R. Fanes has been named to develop the proposal. Comanche County is a leading pea producer in Texas and farmers seek a wholesale market next summer.
